So this is a query for all you self-publishers out there. Apologies to everyone else!

My writing buddies (and some of you) have persuaded me that my first novel is readable. I'm not up for the search for a publisher so I think I'll go with online publishing.

A friend in a writing group who has done this a good bit says that she thinks the easiest way is to start with Smashwords. Would you agree with that?

I've already found a reasonably-priced cover artist and like what he's done. I'm fairly good at the line edits, myself (wrote a grammar and usage handbook that was used in college courses), and think I could figure out the formatting.

She said that you can convert the manuscript from Word to plain text to take out a lot of the Word formatting, and then just have to add in the formatting for Mobi. And also, she said that once you have it formatted in Mobi for Smashwords, it's easy to move it to Amazon and Kindle. Also curious about whether anyone knows if this is true.

Many thanks for any advice!
