I can't decide if they're doing it intentionally now, or if the suggestions they get are really just that bad. That goes for a lot of things on that site, though. I should just pick up and move all my shit to LiveJournal.

I've wondered the same thing. Seems like the DD pickers just have incredibly bad taste though cause I know I've suggested stuff better that that...

DA is totally a huge popularity contest. :/

If you create a gashapon community, I am so there.

I kinda forgot DDs existed since they got shunted to the bottom of the page. I imagine they're still as bad as ever, though.

I just need to take some nice pictures of things to have stuff up when I launch it and to come up with a name. I'm thinking, like, Ozpon or something. MAYBE THAT IS ULTRA BAD. Auspon? Gashapon_au? figuretrading_au? Bleh, naming things.

Every now and then I find myself on the frontpage and end up clicking around the DDs, probably with an expression of increasing horror on my face.

I kind of think the same thing about "Oz" but I want it to be obvious what the community is from the name and a lot of people identify with..."Oz". I'll probably end up with Auspon... "Pon" sounds kind of dumb, not sure is that's good or bad. xD

I still have a whole heap of Pokemon and Digimon figures from back in the day. =) Not quite as many as what you're talking about I'm sure, but they were impressive collections for 12-14 year olds.
