I really enjoyed this exploration of Sam's state of mind -- and his relationship with Cas -- post 9.10. What a terrible emotional state both brothers were left in at episode's end, and I can so imagine that what you describe is what Sam would feel, think, and do.

This was how Dean dealt. This was how Dean sought absolution. This was how Dean would make things right again in his own eyes and Sam wasn't going to take that away from his brother.

And to be perfectly honest, if Dean stuck around much longer, he might deck him.

I think you completely grasped the terribly conflicted emotions Sam experienced at the end of the episode--and then followed it with a perfectly written Cas. I think you were spot-on writing his words about being human vs. angel!

I like this A LOT. I'm so looking forward to more Sam - Cas interactions. For two guys who have been through so much together, they've had very little one-on-one time, and I don't mean this in a 'shippy' way. There's an uneasy orbit about these two, like Dean is their sun, their gravitational center. But without him, what are they? Sam and Cas need to talk almost as much and Sam and Dean...

So interesting to read this story AFTER the episode between Cas and Sam! You caught the dynamic perfectly (and the writing was somewhat better, too) and both characters were IC. I loved getting inside Sam's head and getting the perspective of constantly having himself taken over by others.
