I love my canoe. There is nothing like drifting out on the lake, feeling incredibly small under a brilliant sky.

Ooh! That sounds wonderful!

What kind do you have? (Aluminum, fiberglass, size, etc?)

How heavy is it?

How do you transport it? (Top of car rack, trailer, etc...?)

I can't really decide what I want, but I think that light and small are the way to go. I can always get a bigger one for the family when the kids get old enough to go out in a canoe, themselves.

I have an older Towne and Country canoe that belonged to my stepdad once upon a time. It's fiberglass, which makes it decently light for a very long canoe, and I love it. The only thing I don't like about it is the fading; fiberglass fades when not taken care of properly, but I wasn't about to pass up a free canoe!

I carry it on the top of my car. I have a Saturn Vue, so it's a smaller SUV.

I really hope you get one. I love mine and hope to buy a kayak this summer... canoes aren't as much fun alone. :)

A kayak would be sweet. That's what I wanted, originally, but I don't have much experience with one, so I thoguht a canoe would be more stable. Plus, I will most likely take a kid or two out every once in a while, so a canoe is probably best.

Yeah, fiberglass does tend to fade. I almost bought a used one a couple years ago that would have been gorgeous, new, but the red fiberglass faded to the most sickly orangey-pink.

I really want a blue one. Heh. :)
