do you know how long it's going to take to sort out the ambulance fees?

I would just think it would be easier to have a single conversation about repayment than multiple, especially if it turns unpleasant. I would also (as a precaution) look up small claims proceedings so if they do refuse any payment (it could happen) you know how to proceed. Unless you are willing to go the lawyer route if they get belligerent. (Not saying it will, mind, but it's better to be prepared ahead of time). Yes, if I were them, I would be happy to shell out the money for an ambulance ride & antibiotic and consider myself damn lucky... but you never know.
