If this truly is a war and you need our help... why do you continue to keep us locked in here like prisoners?

[That list of names... once again, non-combatants were being sent out. Himself included. Ion knows it's a futile attempt at best, but to be dragged out to war and used as nothing but living weapons, after everything they've been subjected to, living in this enclosure, only to be chided like children?]

[When has this ever been a game to them?]

[He's angry. But yelling won't get them anywhere. Futile or not, if there could be even the slightest attempt at reasoning with them, Ion was going to try.]

If the third party is our common enemy, why can't we work together as equals? Drafting people who can't even defend themselves... isn't there another way?

... I don't think they're going to listen to us, Ion.

[His voice is low and angry. He'd rather just yell and throw something, but... what good will that do?]

[He knows that, but he doesn't want to admit it. To admit it would be to admit there's nothing they can do, and he just can't believe that.]

[He's quiet for a moment before simply changing the subject. There were more pressing things at hand than the Malnosso's obstinateness.]

...what are we going to do? Continuous days on the battlefield is different from how they've done this in the past, isn't it?

Yeah. They always gave us time to rest and recover before. Maybe now they think we don't need things like that.

[Is that some passive-aggression, Luke? Yes it is. If he's not going to get any answers, then he'll just let the rage slowly leak out instead.]

[Ion doesn't respond right away. Luke is upset, they both are, but if they were going to talk about the situation seriously, they needed time to calm down.]

[Was there ever time for that? Two days...]

...I don't want to talk about this over the journal. Would it be all right if I spoke with you in person later?

[His tone makes it clear that his asking is only a formality.]

There's little choice involved in the selection of draftees. It's an unfortunate consequence, a trade-off for the ability to send soldiers in at all. My own men face the same issues as any of yours.

[He'll get back to her side-stepping of his first point in a moment:]

The same issues? Do you mean merely on the battlefield, or are your men also incapable of participating voluntarily in the war?
