My mind immediately went to - so he cut out the saddle and the filets mignon, but what about the rest of the carcase? Does he have a sort of obligation to drag it into the woods where it won't stink too much while it is being eaten by less discerning diners?

The deer got hit on the road, so it's up to the highway department to haul away the carcass.
