Actually, growing up in the South with Northern parents, I learned to pick up "no accent" (this term is ricockulous now, I know) so as not to offend anyone, but still people thought I was acting too smart. Funny how those stigmas when you're a kid go completely opposite when you grow up.

Opposite-- meaning when I was a kid, sounding "posh" was something to be made fun of. I got picked on for being "smarter" than everyone else, for thinking I was better than others because I could do better in class... and now that I've gotten an education and left the po-dunk town and seen the world, I find myself looking down on the po-dunk town and seeing the bullies of my childhood as useless bullies rather than cool kids I aspire to be just like. Does that make sense?
