What The Fuck?!?

It's a sad, seditious day when BLM protestors in their own cities are met with more violence than a rioting mob invading the United States Capitol building. These people should be in police custody.

There is something very wrong in America.

trump is a traitor, racism, impeach that fucker again, insurrection, prosecute all these assholes

A wise person once sent me a mug that said, "I'm not bossy, I just know what you should be doing."

Who am I to argue?!? ;)

I feel like... every time something happens, there's some outrage and discussion about it, and then nothing. At this point we've had literal sedition, our Capitol building overrun, and STILL people are making excuses. If even THIS is not enough for people to realize how fucked up everything is, what hope is there?

SO MUCH THIS. Trump has never hidden who or what he is. From the days of the campaign when he claimed he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and still be elected to constantly deferring to Putin to claiming that there are "good people on both sides" to assaulting peaceful protestors to pardoning his criminal cronies, Trump has thrown his assault against democracy in everyone's faces, and JUST NOW that he's taken his call for redneck revolution straight to congress, it appears they've finally gotten serious about repercussions. Too little, too late, IMO. The damage has been done.

I am glad that there has been at least *some* taking this seriously and I read that the people who stormed the Capitol are suddenly realizing that they might actually *gasp* get in trouble and now they're panicking/backpedaling. The Nation interviewed a woman at the riots who was sobbing that "they're supposed to shoot BLM people, not patriots!" No, and no, lady. They're ABSOLUTELY NOT "supposed" to shoot BLM people and you are ABSOLUTELY NOT patriots, no matter how much you keep telling yourself you are. The thing that really blows me away about trump supporters is the complete god-like worship of everything he says and does. If you like his tax policies or whatever, that's one thing, but when there's this like slavish obsession that he can do no wrong and only he can save us and he has never said or done anything that wasn't 100% true and perfect, etc. I've supported plenty of candidates in the past but never once have I felt that they could do no wrong, and they did nothing anywhere near as wrong as the insane things Trump ( ... )

I confess, I do receive a certain amount of bitchy satisfaction in watching the implosion of their so-called values. The were the Blue Lives Matters crowd...until the police started arresting them. They were the party of law and order...until they decided to storm the Capitol. They were worried about the deficit...until they weren't, and now they are again. Their total inability to come off as anything other than the self-centered hypocrites that they are is just delicious.

A few of my extended family members are the kind of people that I 100% would not have been surprised if they were at the riots, and they are SO wildly un-self-aware. It makes me insane. One of them posted something the other day about how they'd rather lose honestly than win with lying and cheating, followed by a diatribe about how everyone knows Trump won. Like, how do you even deal with that level of ( ... )

Yeah. I’ve tried to keep up with the events which was a bit difficult with the different time zones and work, but I think I got the gist of it by now. Honestly, it's interesting to see how the language has changed already over the last 24 hours. At least it seems like (our) media finally stopped whitewashing things with a language that was way too mild for what happened. The first reports last night (well, night in my time zone) talked about "upset Trump fans pushing their way into Congress". Well, today they talk about a mob, rioters, domestic terrorists and even dare to outright say that it's mostly white male supremacists! Oh really, who would have guessed?!

I wish that there were hard consequences for anyone involved, but I've given up hope over the last four years for there to be enough justice in the USA. I think I am just stuck on hoping that you'll all get through the last 13 days of Trump's regime without any further catastrophes.

Two weeks have never seemed so long.

I read what Merkel had to say about it, and I get the sense she might be the most excited non-American to see Trump go.

Lol, I think she's one of the most "reservedly excited" ones among us. A lot of people who can speak their minds more openly have been a lot more vocal and outspoken about Trump for years. Tbh, a lot of German people have probably been even more worried about Trump than the American people due to witnessing so many parallels between his presidency and what happened here with the Third Reich. Obviously, we are all very cautious with Trump/Hitler comparisons, but there have been a lot of worrying similarities, right down to some speeches by Trump that were literally translated original quotes from Hitler speeches. That is really disturbing. And yes, there were many celebrations when Trump lost the election.

Really, it was obvious to anyone who wasn't totally ignorant about WW2 and/or didn't have a motive for not seeing the similarities. There's a reason the right wing doesn't want to invest in public education.

They should be in jail. Something went terribly wrong with the planning for this event, the joint session. The FBI should have had ample notice of what was going down and shared that info with the Capital Police. I am sure there will be an investigation and the truth will come out. The lives of every elected official in direct succession to Trump were in that building, from Pence on down. Someone in that crowd had pipe bombs. Another individual had zip ties! It's shocking how close they got to taking hostages.

Every bit of info we learn about these traitors is more insane than the last. Lauren Bobert and Charlie Kirk should be facing felony charges, as well as every other single person who aided those ignorant-ass insurrectionists. Someone made the conscious decision to understaff the force defending the Capitol, and that someone needs to be exposed and tried.
