What's Your Go-To Happy Song?

Nov 07, 2019 01:36

The weather is changing and temperatures are falling in my part of the world, so you know what that means...seasonal affective disorder. I'm getting out ahead of it this year in an effort to minimize the psychological effects of saying goodbye to the sun for the next four months or so and, to that end, I'm collating a "Winter is Killing Me (But I'm ( Read more... )

I find it highly amusing how your list contains either songs that make me go all "OMG, I thought no one else but me would love such an obscure choice" or "I've never even heard of that song". Will have to check out the unknowns.

Anyway, one of my all-time go to songs when I am feeling down or worse is OK GO This Too Shall Pass

And I love all the versions of this song, including the weird and amazing videos. Hell, I love almost EVERYTHING OK GO have ever released.

At the moment I'm on a real 2CELLOS spree, although I have to admit that the best thing about them is their drummer Dusan Kranjc. I could watch his DRUM CAM videos for hours. I've never been that much into metal, but performed on two cellos and accompanied by the best drummer ever? I love to rock out to their music when I am stressed. I am listening to this right now!

Well, to keep with the obscure shit: Soft Cell Tainted Love/Where Did our Love Go. The transision between these two songs is superb and it's funny how upbeat the whole thing is, considering the rather sad ( ... )

I like some of OK GO's earlier stuff, and I love this song (and especially this video)! It looks like I needto check out more of their work. Thanks for the rec.

"Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go" is one of my favorite songs. I'm slightly offended you called it "obscure" (not really, but I love teasing you). :)

I know the Decemberists! Okay, only one song...but that still counts, right?

More recommendations are always welcome!

Ha, I think the best thing about OK GO actually are their highly creative videos! ;)

Let me guess.. The Crane Wife or even just one of the three parts? Apparently that's their most common song? It is great, but I love a lot of their other songs, too.

I'll drop some more when I'll have more time! ♥

Hmmmmm.

Well, I'll tell you what I've been listening to lately when I want to feel upbeat/energized - basically songs that make me want to sing along or dance...

The soundtrack for The Greatest Showman
Wolf Totem - The HU (it's a mongolian metal band, but I find it so fun to listen to. Of course, I also have a playlist titled "music to pillage a village to")
Hooked on a Feeling - Blue Swede, Bjorn Skifs
Africa - Toto
Hips Don't Lie - Shakira
A Little Respect - Erasure
Tik Tok - Ke$ha
The Final Countdown - Europe
I Love It - Icona Pop
Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters
Telephone - Lady Gaga/Beyonce
Hey Look Ma I Made It - Panic! At the Disco
Another One Bites the Dust - Queen

Any of that helpful? lol

I'm sorry, but this just moved you waaaayyy up on my estimation of cool. Big thumbs up! LOL

I need to check out the soundtrack from TGS. I haven't seen the movie, so I have no idea what's on there. (*mental note*)

"Hooked on a Feeling," "Africa," and almost any Queen song are classics. I'm definitely adding them to my list. Side note: My daughter's first wedding dance was to "Africa" per her husband's request. It was kind of adorable.

I'm going to look up a couple of these others. That was very helpful, thank you!

LOL... The incongruity of this list when viewed as a whole is so YOU. I LOVE IT.

I need to look up the specific song, but I LOVE the Bare Naked Ladies, and that song title isn't ringing any bells for me. Hmmm.... (*Asks self, "Have I had another seizure? Well yeah, but I mean another other seizure? LOL)

The Mamas and Papas have been close to my heart since I was a kid. My mom indoctrinated me while I was still in the womb.

"Just Remember I Love You" is a great song. I've been on a 70's kick for some time now, too. I'm pegging this song for my "All in My Feelings" playlist.

Rob Zombie is awesome! We've actually seen him in concert, though I don't remember it. LOL

I need to look a few of these up.

Do you remember a TV Show about nerds and the cool girl next door called THe Big Bang theory? BNL did the theme song.

This is just Mama Cass, it's from Mama Casses big ones and I heard it for the first time on The Good Place, it's sweet little upbeat song.

I'm vaguely aware of the show and would swear that one of the girls used to watch it, but I don't know that song at all. Seizures make everything weird. lol I also did not know or had forgotten about the Mama Cass song. Thank you for bringing both of them to my attention!
