I think we are in rat's alley, where the dead men lost their bones

Part one of what is likely to be a quite epic serial. PP/SB, PP/ER.
Begins at the end. PG-13 for emotional and physical abuse (mostly mild or implied). It was a few weeks after the betrayal and Peter's hand was infected. He took the sickness like medicine, twisted up on a dirty cot. Sweat poured off his skin. Sometimes in his sleep he would ( Read more... )

This is really fantastic! Really, really fantastic. I was going to quote my favorite bits but they just kept changing. You wrote two fascinating, complicated, flawed but somehow seriously painful characters. I never really wanted to feel sorry for Peter, but I do.

And yet, you didn't make him stronger or better or anything other than what he is, you just exemplified in a way that makes perfect sense.

I am so glad you decided to write this and I hope that more people read it because it rocks every house there is!

Mm, lovely. I think what works best about this is the way they fling their faults at each other so uncaringly. The way they are both so selfish, and yet needy. I don't read a lot of Peter fics (actually I think this may be the first, or one of the first) because I think people tend to over-simplify his character, but I'd be interested to see where this goes. I think where you start to really nail his character is here:

"I can see your freckles, pretty," Peter said.

That earned him another slap.

Lovely. But of course I was watching Evan. :) Oh, I love him and his little bit of glass. That's so pathetic and so desperate and so disparaging. He comes acroos so vividly just in this short segment I think it's a real shock when he dies. Wonderful stuff, of course. :D
