Glad you loved it ^_^ I find Lee's dialogues fairly easy to write, because he has a great style in the series. Gaara's a bit harder to pin down, especially after the changes in the manga, but Lee's a great foil for him!
Or, as Kankuro put it: 'Brutal. You should get your head examined'.
Which was silly; Lee's head was perfectly fine. Gaara was practicing his control, as well as his speed and power, and he'd never aim for anything as vital as Lee's skull.
*hugs Lee to itty bitty pieces*
Plus, he's still noticing Gaara's clothes. And Gaara will miss him! And Gaara knows enough to tell him not to kill himself running fast! (Even if it didn't completely work.) Gaara cares enough to raise his voice and startle other people, just to make sure he gets through to Lee.
Oh yeah, Lee's still noticing Gaara's clothing. At one point- in a year or two - Lee might actually come to realize that this is a bit strange...*rolls eyes*
The shonen ai hints have to be seen through electron microscopy, but they are there :P It's 99% friendship (sort of) for now, but that's about to change in a few more chapters.
I've always felt an intangible sadness that is a part of Gaara that is irreversible and permanent. The same sadness that is somehow filled in every nook and cranny that is Gaara's character. You've displayed that so very well...it aches. The dynamics between Gaara and Lee are incredible, and you've done a great job in their evolution. It's like a development by leaps and bounds in just a few sentences, nothing that is completely apparent but the feeling of the text, the images, the emotions (or lack thereof) involved, speaks volumes and whole novels. Great job.
I know what you mean by Gaara's sadness. I think Gaara and Naruto's evolutions are the best part of the manga. In a way, it's made worst by the fact that he faces it head-on and tries his best as Kazekage, instead of moping around like some people *coughSasukecough* He won't even bother to mope. It's beyond that.
That's why he works so well with Lee. You can see right through Lee, all the way to that big kind heart of his. I don't need to belabour their interaction. I just put them together in a scene and let them interact, and there they are ^_^ Glad you like it!
thanks for updating! now i have another part to re-read until part five comes out...hopefully soon.
i absolutely adore kankurou and his sarcasm!
the bonding part was excellent...even though it was a difficult chapter, be proud of it! and seriously, the amounts of comments you've gotten so far (and this has been posted for how long?) probably and hopefully make you feel all warm and fuzzy.
I'm so warm and fuzzy, I'm in danger of turning into an electric blanket ^_~ I am really glad people seem to like this fic so much, including some people who aren't really into the whole Gaara/Lee pairing. It makes the work definitely worthwhile ^_^
I love down-to-earth, cynical Kankuro too. He doesn't appear much in this fic anymore, and I was wondering if I could bring him back a bit somehow.
