Hi, Malcom. I'm Pamela, ethnic Canadian living in northern New England, and am therefore immune to cold and terrified of ice storms. (You would not believe how hard it is trying to explain the term "ethnic Canadian" to people.) I like living by the sea or a large body of water, although it's not necessary, but I get really agitated if I live in a flat area where there aren't that many trees. My degree is in English and Environmental Science (so I feel your pain), and am working a series of mildly humiliating retail jobs while trying to find someone who will take me for a Masters' in Library Science.
I knit a lot. I mean, like, a LOT. Sometimes I even knit at work. I like making knit items for other people, but much to my astonishment nobody ever seems to want anything (WTF I MAKE AWESOME MITTENS). I also really really like Christmas cards; sending them, getting them, having massive boxes of them in my desk. It's a sickness.
I was born stateside, but my Mum's people were from New Brunswick and Montreal, so I've had a passport ever since I was a tiny thing and basically grew up on both sides of the Maine-New Brunswick border. I landed in Montreal for Uni (a city that I still miss), and am looking at going back North for Grad school. But really, I'll go to whatever school (a) lets me in and (b) gives me the most money.
Scarves are a good place to start! Can you purl yet? Have you tried making mittens? If you make them with bulky yarn and big needles, it's not that hard...
Banjo! You would totally fit in with the hillbillies around here, fancy that! :P I am so not patriotic. In fact, one day I aspire to defect to Canada or some other country. I'm the anti-patriot and I totally don't put "under god" in my pledge of allegiance. I just look at different governments and I'm like, "Canada is pretty chill, great health care and gay marriage, no need to worry about my English being too damn wonky like I would in England, let's go!"
I used to LOVE playing the banjo, but basically I am lazy and never practiced. I've always wanted to have like, a banjo-time with a bunch of hillbillies.
Canada is not as chill as it seems, especially to Americans. My ex-stepmom was from Georgia, and people were MEAN to her because of her accent. Lame and disgusting. But I would be thrilled to have you.
Okay, I don't know how I missed this. But YAY INTRO! I didn't know you were younger than me! woe. I'm going to start unintentionally calling you kid, now (I do it with everyone younger than I am). Along with Mal.
There is nothing wrong with being a proud Canadian. I'm a proud American, I'm just not crazy about it. Also, I kinda love the Canadian national anthem, so it's a win win there. =D
Also, I completely want to learn how to play the banjo! I've wanted to for a while. Or the ukulele. I'd be awesome at that.
Wait, how old are you??? I call people kid all the time, even if they're older than me.
The Canadian anthem IS pretty great. During assemblies, or the Remembrance Day assemblies, when everyone sings it together, it's pretty awesome. UGH I AM SO LAME.
If you learn the uke, and I re-learn the banjo, think of how awesome that would be! And you could sing at the same time!!! Such music we could make!

And you are indeed funny and never lame except for how that's a lie and you suck all the time.
WHAT UP, CANADIAN!
