Music and dreams

Last night I sat down to write some music. The first time in a long time. I failed miserably and after about 30 minutes of making terrible noises I walked away from it. No more music ( Read more... )

It could just be that the dream was a manifestation of your musical insecurities rather than a premonition of impending musical doom?

Yes, I'm worried that my music is crap. ;-)

Its not crap. And it's much better than the Corrs.

Dude, don't cancel the gig.
Everyone has off-days where they can't get a single workable sound out of anything. Some days you should just be playing playstation and eating pizza instead.
The number of times I've said "I'm fed up with this, I'm selling everything to buy a big plasma screen and giving up" are too numerous to count, but it's just one of them bad days when the muse ain't with you.

Problem is that this bad day has lasted about a year so far. That's not a bad idea about selling up and getting a plasma though. I think that the focus of my life is changing somewhat.

Stick with it mate, you've already gone further than most of us ever dare to dream we might.
Try doing something totally different and fresh. I've just been working on some hip-hop stuff after feeling just like you for ages, and it's really got me re-invigorated.

I must admit, I'd be interested in dipping my toes in the waters of Dubstep but I kinda feel like a tourist. :-(

I don't think you should cancel the gig - you never know, you might hear something that inspires you. If nothing else, you'll probably get to hang out with some of your mates...

I'll have to spend a fair bit of next week practicing then. I haven't "flexed it pon deck" for quite a while... And then there's all the new records to buy. :-(

I think you may have grown musically rather that "lost" anything. I know my musical interests expanded as I aged. I still enjoy the old stuff but really enjoy new, also. Like your friends mentioned. Give something different a try. I think you do fabulous with piano and female voices in particular. Change is good.

Agree with the other dudes - could be time to expand your musical boundries?
