Day of Silence 2010

Apr 16, 2010 18:11

Yesterday was FSU's "Day of Silence" 2010 celebration. We marched around campus all day long carrying signs protesting bullying, homophobia, and other types of discrimination. It was interesting. We actually had more of a negative response this year than we have in years past. One of the first women you see in the video below, Katherine (with ( Read more... )

I was carrying one of my signs going to the bathroom (I have to pee like a racehorse a lot these days) and a guy was staring at me, and then he pointed at me and said "Holy shit! Is she going IN THERE?"

Uh, asswipe says what? What the hell is that even supposed to mean? Gawd, people are ignorant.

Again, I'm not sure exactly how he meant that, but next year I want a shirt that says "Gay people pee too."

HAHA :D

I always told people that if everyone who was "not entirely straight" walked around wearing signs, people would be blown away to realize how many of us there were (and they'd make stupid comments because they'd think we were going to hit on people in bathrooms). Looks like I got a taste of what that's like.

I still totally want to make that shirt though. :-p

I would totally wear a "gay people pee too" T-shirt.

and one guy said "I'm sick of bisexuality," which really confused me because there's at least ten ways you can take that.

ANECDATA ALERT: there's a seventeen-year-old kid (the kind that know everything there is to know world without end amen) in my creative writing class that has, and this is not an exaggeration, written every single one of his assignments about a "gay" (read: he thinks she's just experimenting and will settle down and marry a nice man, like him, as soon as she discovers some nice cock, like his) female friend of his and how she needs to quit "pretending" she is "bisexual." Or a lesbian. I'm not sure he really knows which one he means.

Best Part: he did not start this shit until after we read "Brokeback Mountain" (oh my the short story is wonderful, too). Now he cannot shut up about it, even though that was, like, three months ago. :P

I totally liked the story "Brokeback Mountain" better than the movie.

Female bisexuals totally need to stop pretending and pick a side. *gets dumber just typing that*

Oh! if "gay people pee too" is not available, I would also accept "this gay shit is sick of you too."

Also, "addition because I am so out of it I totally forgot to explain what that guy in my class and your comment have to do with one another": he has not actually said "I'm sick of bisexuality," but I expect him to ANY SECOND. At which point I may deliberately choose one of the at least nine ways he DOESN'T mean and run with it. (Example: "yeah, you really should find a nice boy and settle down.")

Maybe the guy who said "I'm sick of bisexuality" is the same guy and he was visiting friends at Ferris. :-p

You should send him this video: http://www.youtube.com/v/raBrRi_1aFc&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0

Also, your interpretation of "I'm sick of bisexuality" was the first thing that popped into my mind and I really wanted to turn and say it to the guy. And lo, this is why God created the day of silence, so Lillian can't talk. And the people rejoiced.

You know what it makes you if you discriminate against people protesting discrimination? Yeah, pretty much a lousy human being. Congratulations.
