It is true that it's better for any animal to be spayed before they have their first heat cycle, but if you end up doing it after it won't be too big of a deal. You'll just have a fussy cat to deal with.

Since she's an indoor cat there's not as much of a rush to get the vaccines done. Obviously yes she needs them but it could wait a little while. Not long though.

Yeah, but like Colleen said below, it's less they can charge me for if I get them done all at once, and less torture she has to go through being in the doctor's office. she already hates leaving the house, I imagine she's hate going to the vet even more. Plus, if I'm going to get it done eventually anyway, I should get it done all together if I can.

I would get her shots done at the same time, but only out of convenience and less 'office visits' for them to charge you for. The local 'pound' (not ASPCA) doesn't offer discounted spay/neuter? My mom got her kitties spayed there for about $40/50 maybe (they offer the discount on certain days)...she also got low cost shots. Anyway, I 'get' the whole spay/neuter thing, but I know you're strapped and if you don't think she can get outside then I see no rush. I've had cats in heat for years (ones who never went outside) and they never had problems other than being fucking *annoying* when they're in heat (MEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRROW! MRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEOW! up and down the hallways).

ETA: I've have indoor cats go their whole lives without shots. Just food for thought. ;>

Yeah, but to keep her at this apartment, they're making me get her shots (otherwise I wouldn't do it).

The local shelter only does dogs. That's why the people in town can let their cats run around free without collars, because the cats won't get picked up. If she were a dog, they offer some programs for low cost spay and neuter programs, but because she's a cat, I can't get jack. I'm not worried about her running around yowling because she doesn't meow (she opens her mouth like she's meowing, but no noise comes out) but I kind of think I should get that checked just in case there's something wrong with her. I had a dream the other day where she died, and it freaked me out so now I'm worried about her. Plus I was reading some ASPCA websites, and they're full of horror stories where cats got infected and died horrible deaths because they weren't spayed, and it's freaking me out even more.

I wouldn't worry about those horror stories. I've probably had 100+ cats in my life so far (yeah, we had 30+ when I was a kid alone, and they all kept getting 'replaced') and never had issues with non-spayed cats other than the meowing (and attempts at escape because they're so damn horny). I had a cat who *was* spayed, after having litters when my sister had her, and sadly she died an old lady of kitty cat breast cancer (but lived a nice full life)...so really anything *can* happen but as long as you take care of her (not letting her out) and the vet gives her a clean bill of health with his once-over when she gets her shots, your kitty should be ok (and eventually you could save enough to get it done if it becomes unbearable to have her in heat so much). That really sucks that they don't offer the discounted rates for cats.

i haven't done a whole lot of research into dream interpretation, but when you dream about a pet, it's not usually the pet you're actually dreaming about, but an aspect of yourself. innocence, maybe, since she's a baby? childhood? or because of her reproductive matters, could you possibly be more worried than you thought about the cancer and other reproductive woes?

all that said, i know how horrible it is to dream that a pet dies. i woke up one morning after dreaming that i accidentally killed patrick. that dream has haunted me for years, but he's still doing just fine. i don't know if any of this will make you feel better at all, it kind of helped me after my dream, to realize that it wasn't about him at all and wasn't actually a horrible premonition.

*butting in on the dream conVo* :)

Maybe the dream about the kitty is you dreaming about your responsiblity for it, and worrying you won't be able to provide for her (affording her shots/spay/etc). Kitties are resiliant and very forgiving...they'll love you no matter what.

I love that little kitty. When people tell me to "hang in there" I want to hang them off a cliff with only one rope to hang onto and then shout "hang in there" at them until they fall.

also, when people say "don't sweat the small stuff" to me, I want to shove a bunch of small stuff up their asses and then see how THEY sweat it.

LOL Yeah, "Don't sweat the small stuff...'cause it's all small stuff." Bully for you, advice giver, that you're so *zen* and all...how the F does that help me now?

Another one that annoys me? "You're stronger than you think." OH yeah? Let's BOX bitch, and we'll find out.
