It's Harvey Milk's birthday ("O my GOD shut the fuck up about Harvey Milk, dammit," said Lillian's entire friends list in unison) so in honor of that, please enjoy some quotes I stole from someone who stole them from someone else. :-p

“Let me tell you right now. I’ve got a real surprise for the gay community. A real surprise.”- Dan White speaking ( Read more... )

What's even more sad that SO many people feel this way still (the negative stuff)I know. I think people think that homophobia doesn't affect them. I went to a conference in February, and at one of the workshops, the speaker asked the audience to play a game with him. He said he was going to read from a list of names, and at the first name we recognized as something we'd been called, we were supposed to raise our right hands. The second name we'd been called, raise our left hands. By the third name, we were supposed to stand up. So he starts reading from this list, and he starts spitting out these names: "Faggot, sissy, freak, queer, freak, fag, dyke, lesbo" etc. and by the time he got four names into the list, I was standing with both hands raised, and by the end, almost everyone in the room was standing with both their hands raised. The one about realizing gay people are everywhere made me remember to post you this link about former Army Ranger Brian Hughes, who is pushing to repeal DADT. Or die trying. Just like any other Army Ranger ( ... )

Thanks for that link. Courage Campaign emailed me with that guy's story and asked me to send legislators a letter about DADT. I love sending out letters (and calling people...my name is likely on some warning list on a sticky note in Dave Camp's office, given the number of times I've called his office about various issues). I just love being politically active. :-p

Even in my deepest, darkest, most fundamentalist moments, I never really got why people were so afraid of gay people. Seriously, what the fuck?
