Strikethrough 20007: The Drama that Would Not Die

Jun 02, 2007 23:49

I know, I know. You're all sick of hearing about this. But this post is bigger than all the drama and it addresses some serious shit...the Warlords for Ignorance seem to think they have a firm grasp of reality and what abuse does to a person, but they have no idea. The ones I've read from are fucked in the head, and they serve as a detriment to ( Read more... )

Can you sue for comments made online? I've wondered that in the past. I almost wish someone would. I just hope they step over the line...but in my experience, the crazy extremists like this (from every faith, denomination, and belief) get away with it and only grow stronger. It really makes me hate humanity sometimes.

Are you KIDDING me?! I was reading through the comments from the original WfI member blog and I don't know whether I'm really pissed or really disgusted. Probably both. The people commenting and trying to make logical arguments couldn't have been more civil, and yet every single comment was met with child-like insults and variations on the word pedophile. Those WfI-supporting people are just waving around their "trauma" as some sort of pass to be poor humans, and the amount of ignorance that's there..... it's just sick.
I have a close friend who was molested by her dad for years, and does she go around accusing anyone and everyone of pedophilia? Of course not! She deals, but she doesn't go into crazy, witch-hunting mode for other offenders. No, instead she tries talking with other victims.
It just scares me beyond belief that people like the owner of that blog have any influence over anything, let alone LJ.

I totally agree, I knew LJ's purge went deeper than what I knew, but this is far worse than I thought.

I know, I was shocked...I mean, when I was in college I learned that one of my close friends was a pedophile. He fought his urges and never acted on them, and he was terrified people would find out his secret because of the way people judged him. That changed me. I feel horrid about what happened to me and what happens to other kids, but spewing hate and violently attacking others doesn't help at ALL in the healing process...and it's just not right, morally or ethically. Other people have a right to speak, as much as I might hate what they say. and due to the smug attitude on display here, I'm bordering on hate for the WfI members, but I STILL don't want to take away their right to speak and protest and say what they believe. I'm just getting scared that people will think this girl represents all abuse survivors. What bugs me the most are her pictures and accounts of her abuse...I lived in a very angry place at one time and I tried to use means like that to express what I felt about what had happened to me. Art therapy may ( ... )

I bet the creator of WFI is a child molester. why else would they single out abuse survivors such as the ones on LJ. If one of the WFI has his own LJ, I like to take a look at it.

Yeah, what Term said Matt. The whole point of this post is that abuse survivors who lash out with verbal and emotionsl violence against others are not in any way more morally right than the child molestors they claim to hate. Calling them "child molestors" doesn't make sense, and it doesn't really help the discussion. Either they were abused or they are pretending they were abused to get attention and lend credence to their arguments. Regardless, they don't have a right to do that; to attack survivors the way they are. But...yeah, that doesn't mean they're child molestors. Lots of people attack survivors every day in lots of ways.

You do have a good point there, I guess I was wrong.

That makes ZERO sense, Matthew49ers. Just want to say.

Otherwise, they're a whole new breed of moron, and they're power trip is not ending any time soon it seems.

I'm still not sure what precipitated all of this - I've read so many explanations and blogs and what have you that its hard to tell what's what, for me. What I do know is that a lot of people got caught up in a rash and badly informed LJ decision that will take them months, if not years to rectify. I am sorry for those undeserving who got hurt and angry at the amendment rights that were violated.

Abuse is bad enough without it being revisited in such a way.

This is a good overview of why it probably happened: http://stewardess.livejournal.com/261058.html

The way WfI targets people like they're pedophiles...especially when they were abused...it pisses me off. WfI pisses me off in general. http://www.warriorsforinnocence.org/
