Haruhi was not like Kyon. She knew that there were more important things to be done than to sit around and eat waffles.

"Let's go, Kyon!"

So, the brunette wasted no time in entering the cafeteria, locating her classmate, and dragging him away from the table. Who needed breakfast when you had a whole mental hospital to explore?

"We're going to look around this place! It has to be interesting!" she said cheerfully, heading across the room with the other brunette in tow.

"What? A penalty for me?" Haruhi asked, stopping in the middle of the hallway, eyebrow arched in skepticism. Haruhi didn't want to have to accept the shame of a penalty if she failed, but she wasn't one to back down from a challenge, either. Especially from one of her own Brigade members!

"Fine, you're on! But we're going to find something in these rooms other than packing peanuts!" she declared, and began striding down the hallway again.

Kyon nodded silently to answer her question, finally managing to quietly pick off the last peanut from her uniform and pocket it. At least I didn’t mention a duel. Kyon smirked at the thought for a moment and immediately scowled once more as she declared different terms, “This isn’t exclusive to packing peanuts! Don’t go changing things like that on your own whims.”

His arm lurched forward, hauling him behind it as she started off down the hall once more, Kyon in tow. “What kind of mysteries are you hoping to find in a place like this anyway? I doubt you’ll find many aliens or time travelers in a place like this. Maybe ghosts of patients?”

"Yeah, of course! Ghosts count as supernatural, after all!" the girl said excitedly. "I'm sure we'll find at least one ghost around here...and if we can't, then we can look around later, when it's not the morning! Or we can look around for a crazy person!"

Even though both she and Kyon were supposed to be 'crazy people.' Haruhi turned another corner, peeking quickly into the little windows to see if any of the rooms had boxes of packing peanuts before venturing inside. The rules said nothing about looking inside, only about going inside...

“… I don’t think finding a crazy person is unusual in an institute.” Kyon mutters, glancing at the windows in passing as she’d tugs him away, wondering what was in each that had failed to spark her interest. True it wasn’t considered cheating, but he preferred this method that didn’t involve them barging into someplace they shouldn’t be.

“Huh, are you going to take all day now and stretch this out? And what is this later?! I didn’t agree to any such thing, stop volunteering me without asking!” Kyon’s ranting probably bouncing off the back of the brunette’s head.

Haruhi finally chose a door and opened it, peering down another hallway. Sighing impatiently, the brunette headed down this new hallway, hoping that perhaps this corridor would lead them to bigger and better things. In Haruhi's world, of course, that meant an alien, time-traveler, or an Esper.

"Maybe in here..." she murmured, pulling open the second door of the day.

Following her along Kyon used his free hand to rake his fingers through his hair, watching the brunette’s bob of hair bounce merrily in front of him, pushing her way through what amounted to randomly chosen doors.

“Hold on a moment, Haruhi! That isn’t just a closet it’s a…” and Kyon fell silent as Haruhi opened a door to another patient’s door, his eyes widening in shock, his eyes darting between the back of Haruhi and the blonde with twin tails in the room, “Ah, sorry! Sorry, she’s just looking for… ah, n-nevermind!”

Kyon pulled on his arm gently, trying to drag Haruhi back, “Haruhi! You can’t just go barging into other patient’s rooms.”
