It had been a very, very long day.

Settling in had been the worst; Orochimaru hated packing, and hated unpacking even more. Everything he wanted was at the bottom of a box, and after digging through three, he had finally found one of his medical texts covering the various forms of psychosis he'd encounter here.

It was halfway to the library that he remembered why he was headed there in the first place, and it wasn't for studying. Swearing, because he was in disarray from the unpacking, Orochimaru tucked the textbook under his arm and swung into the library. Luckily, it wasn't hard to find the Uchiha. He was distinctive in his beauty--all pale skin and dark hair. That frown he wore tugged at his face, but in the most attractive way. It ran in the family.

Coming up behind Sasuke, he put a smirk on his face and rested a hand on one shoulder. "Enjoying your reading material, I see."

Once again, he turned the page in his book, glad for his rather fast reading skills but then when he thought about it, he wasn't so proud about it because he just finished reading everything a lot quicker than everyone else. Though, that was why he was one of the top students, of course.

Brushing that thought aside, his gaze averted upwards when he heard footsteps, glancing towards the door before back down yet again, fingers brushing over the page in his book.

A hand on his shoulder made him tense ever so slightly, his mind reeling at the fact that one of the patients was going to try and attack him, but the voice was what made his half shocked look disappear and come back as a slight grin.

His head turned so he could look back over his shoulder at the other male, smile widening just barely. ``It's not much, but it'll do.``

"Not brushing up on your mental conditions?" Orochimaru moved to sit across from Sasuke, textbook placed aside. "Since you'll be working here, it'd be wise."

No, the young man hadn't changed a bit. Orochimaru was glad of that; he had liked Sasuke when they'd met at the university and he liked things to stay as they were. His eyes flicked to Sasuke's shoulder, the one he remembered the tattoo had gone onto. He wondered if Sasuke had had it removed.

``Not at the moment,`` he started, carefully pressing his bookmark into place and closing the book, setting it aside also and clasping his hands together. ``I suppose I will do that when I have more free time today.``

Sasuke watched the other male silently, glancing over when he saw Orochimaru's eyes flick towards his shoulder; the one with the tattoo. He couldn't help but let his grin return, his hand coming up so he could push his white shirt back a little and show the marking. ``I still have it.``

``Of course,`` he whispered, fingers tightening under his chin while he thought about the last time he had actually seen the other male, glancing down for just a moment. It had been a while, but he could still remember.

After a few seconds of silence, Sasuke finally broke it by giving a light grin towards Orochimaru and straightening up some, that confidence finding it's way back into his voice. ``So, instead of sitting here and talking about the past, what should we do for now?``

"I assume you are working as a nurse--you did get your degree in that, am I correct?" Orochimaru leaned forward, looking interested. "I shall be seeing you quite a bit then, as I am interning under the doctors here."

The Uchiha really hadn't known, probably didn't know still, how close Orochimaru had come to taking him on the night where Sasuke had gotten drunk and he had only acted such. Seeing that brazen confidence had Orochimaru focused again on that, and shifted a bit himself.

"I did not think you liked the cold," he said.

``Yes, you are correct,`` he replied quickly, nodding his head towards the other male. ``Then I assume that we will run into eachother again.``

Those dark eyes glittered ever so slightly when he noticed that Orochimaru was the one moving now, hands tightening again before he lowered them to rest on the table, sort of propping himself up with them afterwards once he had leaned a bit closer yet again.

``I do not miss out on an opportunity either, no matter how cold it is.``

The intern didn't miss that glitter, not with the intense scrutiny he was putting the other under, and kept his expression carefully schooled. "A wise assumption, Sasuke-kun," Orochimaru said sardonically. "And a wise choice."

That second part was less sarcastic. Sasuke was no idiot; Orochimaru didn't associate with idiots, anyway. Jiraiya being the one exception.

"At least they saw fit to warm the inside. This place is in the middle of nowhere; I feared that perhaps they would let us freeze in our beds."

``Right,`` he nodded quickly and smiled once more, carefully pushing his chair back in and picking up his cup then his book, tucking it underneath his arm before heading towards the door in a quick walk.

Stopping in front of the door, Sasuke glanced back over his shoulder for just a moment, eyeing the older male again then shaking his head and pushing the door open, using his shoulder to hold it for Orochimaru.

``Perhaps I could help you with your room later, if you would like? I'm sure I won't be too busy today.``

"Perhaps you could at at that," Orochimaru muttered, and left the room, again waiting for Sasuke to take the lead. He didn't like people being behind him; medical school was violently competitive, and he'd known (and enacted) no few incidents himself.

That, and he didn't know where he was going.

``I wouldn't mind.`` His shoulders shrugged, head tilting once more before he moved and let the door shut, making sure it was secure then stepping down the hallway slowly.

Sasuke glanced left down the hall then right, trying to make sure that he could remember where his room was. He thought for a moment then turned down the hall, holding his book in both of his arms now. It wasn't too hard to remember.

Orochimaru remembered the corridors they walked through, from the library towards the staff rooms. He would be spending a lot of time in the library, he knew; the rooms were spartan, not that he'd expected any better.

"What room number are you in?" he asked. It could be useful information for later.

``Probably not,`` he murmured, shaking his head then using his finger to pet the snake's head still, his other hand coming up to touch Orochimaru's arm again. Tilting his head up, the Uchiha stared at his friend, blinking in a slightly curious fashion, wishing that he could tell what he was thinking.

Sasuke shook away that thought, moving his hands once more. This time, he slipped his fingers into the other male's sleeve, gently placing slender digits underneath the snake's thin body and starting to take the little thing out as slow as possible so he didn't wake it up.

Orochimaru pulled his sleeve back even further, gently unwrapping the coils from around his pale, toned forearm. The snake blinked once at them, but warm and more happy, it was quiet. "A fine snake, all things considered," Orochimaru said. "It was a stroke of providence that you found him."

He smiled towards the snake, fingers still carefully removing it from his friend's wrist and arm until he could hold it in his palm. ``I believe it was luck that I found him, or he might not even be alive.``

Sasuke looked down at the snake, lifting his hand to pet it's head once again. It really is kind of cute. . .

"Precisely. Snakes are underappreciated creatures." Orochimaru leaned over to stroke the green scales himself, frowning again at how cold the little thing was. "And woe betide the person who dumped him out in the snow, should I find out their identity."
