So I just wrote Season of the Witch-the Mal/River ship manifesto. It goes through a lot of the canon moments I think are key to their relationship, as well as all the things I really love about the pairing. Plus a healthy-sized list of recs!
I contacted the comm about doing it myself awhile back, when I wrote my essay on the subject back in November, but they wanted me to cut it in half and I couldn't decide what to lose, not to mention not having the time to hunt up enough recs.
I shall be grateful, then, since being able to do this gave me the impetus to write the thing, and means we get to have two Mal/River essays out there in the 'verse!
Ah, I just love it when I can think on all the logical reasons for this relationship. Makes me feel less like I'm grabbing at straws. :)
Anyway, wonderful analysis. Lots of fodder for consideration there. And the list of recs was first-rate, too. I have to say, percentage-wise, I think that there are more well-written Mal/River stories than any other kind. Numbers-wise, on the other hand... :(
First off, great summary on their relationship. I agree at all points. The movie was the ultimate moment all together. It centered around them and playing off one another. Mal was River's stone and vice-versa. I was wondering if anyone else ever noticed when Mal was giving his speech's that River seemed to either be out of the picture or off to the side. Great work! It's always lovely to meet a fellow shipper :)
