Author: makingmywayhome/Kristina
Characters/Pairings: Carlisle Cullen, Bella Cullen, Edward Cullen, Alice Cullen, Jasper Hale, Rose Tyler, Tenth Doctor (Bella/Edward, Alice/Jasper, Ten/Rose)
Rating: R/T for violence and a little sex.
Spoilers: Twilight-Breaking Dawn (sort of); Doctor Who-if you know Tennant is the Doctor and Rose looked into the TARDIS, you’re good.
Warnings: A little sex and some violence. Maybe some swearing. I left out Rosalie (because I can’t quite find her voice yet), Esme (because, honestly, I find her boring) and Emmett (just because), so sorry about that R, E and E lovers. Also, I am not British, so if you’re a Doctor Who fan from Britain, I apologize for any errors. I’m a little worried about my Tennant/Doctor voice, too.
Summary: The Doctor and Rose are hanging about the TARDIS, wondering just what it is they have yet to see. They ask the TARDIS for suggestions, and she takes it upon herself to transport them to Forks, Washington, without explaining why. The Doctor and Rose happen upon some of the Cullen clan out hunting and decide to investigate.
Disclaimer: The characters in this story are not mine. I am neither a published writer nor the BBC. I bow down to the wisdom of SMeyer and RTD!
Forks, Washington?
“So, Rose Tyler,” the Doctor began, stretching his long legs out in front of him. “Here we are, the whole of time and space at our fingertips. Where are we going next?”
Rose scrunched her face, contemplating. “Well, let’s see. I’m not exactly up for battling for my life at the moment, so why don’t we head somewhere normal, like Earth?” Rose knew the Doctor didn’t get her into these life-threatening situations on purpose, but she hadn’t forgotten the recent war with the Daleks or Margaret of the Slitheen. She wanted to relax, maybe take in some deserted beach somewhere.
“Oh, come now, Rose!” the Doctor exclaimed, sounding disgusted. “There are planets with trees that release toxins to make you happy, clear, clean oceans-and I mean clear, like literally, like water, not just clear as in clean-and purple grass that feels like velvet. You really want to stay on Earth?” He made it sound as if it were insane that she even suggest it. “If it’s a holiday you’re after, we could zip on over to Caribe, the resort planet. Lovely rooms, we’ll get two, of course, you’ll want your own space, I understand…”
Rose rolled her eyes. “Firstly, Doctor, I am not interested in anything that involves me inhaling toxins, and I’ve seen grass that looks like orange shag carpet. I’ve seen a whole planet of frozen waves, I’ve seen the world explode, I’ve seen people die.” She swallowed thickly, the unwanted memory of her dad’s death floating to the front of her mind. “For once, I’d like to go somewhere and relax. Be peaceful. Maybe see something I never have before.” She folded her hands in her lap and stared down at them. She felt a little ashamed for her moment of weakness, and only silence followed. When she finally dared to look up, though, the Doctor was smiling at her fondly.
“I’m not sure if it’s possible to find something I’ve never seen,” he said, a cheeky smile appearing on his face. “I’m a genius, did you know that, Rose? Certifiably, even.”
“Insane, maybe,” Rose muttered, her mouth curving into a half-smile.
The Doctor acted as if he hadn’t heard her. “Well, let’s ask the TARDIS, then,” he suggested, looking up at the middle column, smiling affectionately. “The old girl might have a few suggestions for us.”
Rose sat up a little straighter. “All right, then, ask away.” She looked expectantly at the Doctor for a moment before the TARDIS began to rock and whir. “Doctor?” she asked, her voice high with shock and her eyes wide.
“Oi!” the Doctor yelled. “I wasn’t being serious! I know plenty of places…” The Doctor was cut off by a violent lurch, and he was suddenly flung into the wall. Rose was thrown against the center console, where she hung on for dear life. The TARDIS lurched again, this time pitching the Doctor back to his original position. “Rose, hold this, please!” he yelled, grabbing hold of what looked like a joystick.
Rose hauled herself to her feet and grabbed what the Doctor indicated. “What’s happening?” she yelled, clinging desperately to the console. The TARDIS was still swirling crazily, and Rose was beginning to feel a bit nauseated.
“The TARDIS took our conversation seriously,” the Doctor responded, flipping something open on the other side of the console. “She’s taking us somewhere, presumably somewhere where there is something we have never seen.” He flung his body closer to Rose and pushed a button. He opened his mouth to say more, but was interrupted by their bone-jarring landing. Rose was thrown to the floor, the Doctor not far behind her. He thrust his arm over her body protectively, and gripped the grates in the floor.
When the TARDIS finally settled, the Doctor got to his feet slowly, holding out a hand to help Rose up.
“What happened?” she asked, rubbing the back of her head, blonde hair falling into her face. The Doctor crossed to the console and stared at it for a moment longer than necessary. “Doctor? What happened?” Rose asked again, stepping toward him.
“Forks, Washington?” he asked, his entire face the very picture of confusion. “What could possibly be so interesting in Forks?”
“What are you talking about?” Rose asks, exasperation evident in her voice.
“Well, you wanted Earth, and you got the earth,” the Doctor replied, turning to face her. “We are currently in a meadow in Forks, Washington, America.”
“Wait, we’re in a town called Forks?” Rose giggled, placing a hand over her mouth. “Forks? Are you sure, Doctor?”
“Of course I’m sure, Rose,” he replied sulkily. “Can you read Gallifryian?”
Rose continued to laugh and ignored him.
“At any rate,” the Doctor huffed, eyeing Rose a little haughtily, “we are in Forks in November 2079. Forks is a small town, dreary really, horribly dreary, for most of the year. Don’t know why anyone would choose to live here, really, seems like a hotbed of depression. Probably has a high suicide rate...Rose?” The Doctor looked around to see the back of Rose’s head disappearing from the TARDIS door. He sprinted after her. “Rose! You don’t just leave the TARDIS! Who knows what’s out there?”
Rose wasn’t listening. She was standing near the edge of a snow-covered meadow, staring at the tall evergreen trees in the distance. The snow was soft, perfect for making snowballs, and it glittered like a thousand diamonds even under the overcast sky. Rose took a tentative step out, then a few more, soon running to the middle of the field. The Doctor followed her, and she packed a snowball quickly, tossing it at his chest before running away, laughing. The Doctor chased after her and grabbed her, spinning her around. They were laughing when he set her down, and it took them a moment to notice the woman standing a mere six feet from them.
“Oh!” Rose exclaimed, jumping back. Her jaw fell open when she looked at the woman. Her skin was pale as the snow, and she stood impossibly still, as if she wasn’t breathing. She was wearing a thin t-shirt with ripped jeans and snow boots. Her long brown hair was tied loosely in a braid. The woman’s eyes were a tawny color, and Rose felt as though she were being drawn into them, like a whirlpool.
“She’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,” Rose whispered to no one in particular.
Suddenly, the woman’s face contorted, her lips pulling back into a snarl. Rose grabbed the Doctor’s arm and stepped further back. “Who are you?” the woman demanded, a musical quality still clear beneath the snarl. “Where are you from?” She took a step toward Rose, and Rose yelped.
“Stay back!” the Doctor yelled, finally springing into action. He pulled his sonic screwdriver from his jacket and held it out in the woman’s direction. He held is arm out protectively across Rose once again.
Rose stared at the woman and the Doctor for a moment before considering something. “Doctor?” she asked, stepping around his arm tentatively. “The TARDIS knew we wanted to go somewhere relatively free from danger, and she’s obviously, well, different, so…why don’t we just answer the question?” Before giving him time to respond, Rose took another step and held out her hand. “I’m Rose Tyler, and this is the Doctor.” She paused for a moment before it became clear that the woman was not going to shake her hand. “Right, then,” Rose rushed on. “I’m from London in the early twenty-first century.” This seemed to surprise the woman and Rose gestured at the Doctor. “He’s alien, really alien. We’ve been…traveling, we call it, hopping about between different planets and times…” This sounds pathetic, she thought, deciding to change tracks. “This,” she gestured at the snowy TARDIS behind her, “is the TARDIS. It’s sort of like a space ship…” She trailed off again, feeling inadequate at describing the TARDIS and realized the woman was staring at her. “What?”
The woman continued to stare for a moment for shaking her head quickly. “Well, stranger things have happened,” she said cryptically. She stuck her hand out, looking a little sheepish. “My name is Bella Cullen. I live not far from here.”
Rose took her hand and shook it. The woman’s skin was rock hard, smooth and very cold. “Hello, Bella,” she said, wondering if this stone woman could feel her grip.
Bella smiled and then turned back to the woods. “Edward,” she said conversationally and without raising her voice, as though the turn of the conversation had naturally taken them there. Rose stared at her for a moment, before taking a startled step back.
Suddenly surrounding Bella were four more people that looked just like her. They all had the same pale skin, the same yellow eyes. Another woman had come up, her hair short, her frame petite. She had a smile on her face, and a look like she wanted to speak, but hadn’t been given permission. The three men were the most striking. One had a mass of curls and soft features, and one seemed to be older, with a serene look on his face, but the other one really caught Rose’s attention. His coppery hair was a mess on his head, reminding Rose absurdly of Harry Potter, and his face was angelic. His eyes seemed to draw her closer, and Rose took a step toward him, hand rising of its own volition. She felt a hand wrap around her arm and stop her, and she turned to see the concerned face of the Doctor.
“R-Rose,” the Doctor stuttered, pulling her back toward him. “They-they’re…”
Bella leaned forward and smiled. “Vampires?” she asked, her smile growing to reveal totally normal teeth.
