One of the things that we really like to have in a disaster is a good supply of electricity. A portable generator is one resource for this, but many people cannot afford such a thing ( Read more... )

Absolutely. I live in Northeast Florida and during the onslaught of Hurricanes two summers ago, we lost power for 8 days straight. We couldn't get our hands on a generator but my husband picked up a power inverter from the local auto parts store and it was WONDERFUL. We even used an extra car battery to run our fan at night since it was unbearably hot (of course he had to tote it to his dad's house during the day to charge it back up since they had power).

But I would absolutely agree. Affordable and effective.
