That's f'ing scary. And I know if the US passes something like this, Canada and other countries are soon to follow with similar legislation.

I posted and I don't expect you to write me fic. The word needs to be spread about this. Like yesterday...

Me and over 999,999,999 people sent e-mails to Congress yesterday, but they're still doing hearings. Though according to this post, a lot of government officials (including two from my state...that's the Twitter conversation on the page) are opposed to how shoddy the law is.

You know what really terrifies me? They talk a lot about YouTube and SoundCloud, which have audio media and video clips, but what about fanfic? Am I going to go to jail for five years for taking characters that don't belong to me and putting them in my own stories? If I put two characters in a sexual situation, am I going to be accused of defaming the characters and get sued? I mean, heck, while I get a cease and desist for using the images of a copyrighted character in a header or an icon or a sidebar gif? There's no limit as to how far this can go.
