While I see what you might be aiming for (which I would speak about in the language of mindfulness) I totally disagree with the formulation that "how is more important than what".
We are what we do. You know what they call the guy who graduates with the lowest grade in med school? Doctor. If being a doctor is what you want to do, then do that as best you can. Being a great musician when your heart longs to be treating sick people isn't necessarily a good choice.
It might not surprise you then that I disliked "A Man For All Seasons" particularly the bit where he yammers on about how it only counts if you do something for the right reasons.
