I haven't listened to morning radio in awhile ... but I do listen to Mix 107.3 Jack Diamond in the Morning show. This morning I caught a snippet of the show and they were talking about "unassisted birth" that's is supposed to air at 5 tonight on Channel 7 ... and OMG, if my blood didn't boil and the misinformation and disrespect they showed for ( Read more... )

Seems to me the show could do a lot better than tolerate some of Jimmy's comments. Your case is a great example of that.

I sent them a similar letter about insensitive Jimmy comments on adoption, but they never replied. Jimmy told a joke about a father who told his adopted son that if he didnt do better in school he was going to take him back to the orphanage. Jimmy thought that was funny.

My son used to listen every day, but when he heard that he asked me to turn the radio off. I told them that in my letter and expected a response at least to the fact that they are loosing listeners with that kind of insensitivity. Son listens to another station now almost all the time.

Jimmy's purpose in the show is to say offensive things to get people stirred up. Unfortunately, what we can't tell is if Jimmy actually believes what he says, or if he's just spouting offensive rhetoric to see who will jump.

Jimmy makes me miss Bert!. Bert! did the same thing, but was much less offensive at it.

I didn't hear the actual interview but I heard some of the lead up earlier in the show and thought they were specifically talking about people having births at home WITHOUT a mid-wife. I remember thinking "I wonder what make-your-move would say about the topic?"

When I read the first part of the post, I thought the exact same thing!

"Unassisted? Where was the midwife?"

I stopped listening to 107.3 specifically to avoid having to listen to Jack Diamond. I find him to be so insincere and hypocritical that just hearing his voice annoys me. It doesn't surprise me that he'd do a sensationalized and inaccurate report on home-births in the least. Here are some of the things he's said and done that annoyed me:

His first wife died in childbirth. While she was pregnant he was hitting on other women, quite aggressively from what I've heard ( ... )

I missed most of that portiono of the show apparently. When I got to work (almost 3 hours late today) Leslie's interview had only started a couple minutes before and she was saying how most doctors don't recommend completely unattended births and it's mostly about finding the right fit for the family when it comes to options.

I remember thinking it would be interesting to have you involved in the discussion.

I'm saddened to hear that Jimmy played the asshole card. I hope your email at least gets noticed.

I can't tell you how many uneducated ignoramuses there are out there who have thought i was some kind of a nut case for having my baby at a birth center with CNMs. Unfortunately, it's now closed because of professional jealousy driving insurers to abandon them. It makes my blood boil, actually. The nurse who assisted the CNM delivering my 9 lb 8 oz baby said that if it had been in the hospital I would have just about automatically had a section or a forceps delivery. To this day I am thankful for my CNMs and the Maternity Center in Bethesda. Jack can kiss my crunchy granola ass.
