I really loved this book--and this series--but I thought it was painful to read. The background we're given into Finnick, Johanna, and Haymitch stories tore at my heart and although I expected a lot of death since they were fighting a rebellion, two of the deaths in particular nearly killed me. I had to put the book down for awhile before I could start reading it again. I did like the hope Collins offers her readers in the ending, especially the way Peeta and Katniss are able put each other back together again.
Brilliant and tragic--those are the two words I use to describe it to people who ask me what I thought of it. I loved it, but it hurt. (And I'm not usually a fan of stories that hurt.)
