I don't know what you're after or what your tastes are as a reader, but! Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein is a fiction book that has completely changed the way I think about things before (religiously), and if you're after nonfiction, I'm currently really jazzed about the Autobiography of Malcolm X. You might have already read these? Dunno.

Nope, I haven't read them. I'll definitely check 'em out, thanks!

Any time someone asks me for a book suggestion I always give them the same answer. A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. It's the only book I've ever read twice and..

I won't say that many of these changed my life and I don't know what you are into but...

Darkly, Dreaming Dexter - Jeff Lindsay
World War Z - Max Brooks
Dispatches from the Edge - Anderson Cooper
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
Ender's Shadow - Orson Scott Card
Dies the Fire - S.M. Sterling
Cod - Mark Kurlansky

I've also heard that Pillars of the Earth is good but I've never read it myself.

My goodness, thank you. That's a whole list. This is awesome, I'm so excited!

If you wind up liking any of them, Darkly Dreaming Dexter is the first of three books so far, Dies the Fire is the first of a trilogy with a subsequent tetraology, and Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow are parallel books with individual series.

I really loved the description of Dies the Fire, so, that's next up on my reading list, actually. But, if my last book is any indication, I read *incredibly* slowly. Although I'm going to try and read a lot faster/more. In fact...I should make it a Resolution for 2008.

Sarah Dessen's The Truth About Forever is fantastic, if you haven't read it already. Although I wouldn't necessarily consider it 'life-changing,' it certainly is a good read at any point in time.

And I know how you feel about the open-mindedness issue. It happens to me all of the time, which is sort of sad.

Alright, cool, I'll add it to the list.

And, thanks for getting that.

First of all Debbie, better to be too open minded than too closed minded. One should always be willing to challenge/change your beliefs. Anything by Chuck Palahunik (he wrote fight club) is great, just remember, its not about the actual story, its about the message the story conveys. Also In cold blood by truman capote was awesome as well. Hope all is great with you and have a great holiday.
