Any "Twilight" fans on my FList?

Okay, so a friend from work just discovered "Twilight" and is crazy about the books now. So, she says that I just have to read it when she's done. Which happened last night. So, today she brings me her copy and says that I should read it. Now, I understand the desire to share your favorite books with others, if for no reason other than you'll ( Read more... )

A friend of mine read the series and she says it's brain candy, but little else. Probably much more satisfying for a teenager than an adult.

You're not alone. I found Twilight cliche and really Mary Sueish. There's far too much deux ex machina, and the plot is pathetic, its like a bad fanfic. I don't really blame it though for being like that, because its targetted towards the teen audience. However, I found it a total yawn after reading the first book and refuse to read any more.

Thanks for the info. I think you've clenched it for me. Between your review and the others I've gotten I think I'll just give up now before I waste my time on 400+ more pages.

I haven't read it, mostly because while I don't necessarily feel that children's fantasy is beneath me, it doesn't appeal to me and I'm really REALLY grateful to Eoin Colfer and JK Rowling for putting out books in that subgenre that are just fantastic.

(Okay, i've never READ artemis fowl, but it's reviewing favorably last I checked.)

After Eragon though, I was kind of burned on the whole concept.

I think that may be a big part of my problem. I mean, honestly, what good is a hot vamp if you're not going to get any NC-17/XXX action?

They are pretty terrible, honestly, but addictive. Badly written, bad grammar and the main character is a complete brainless Mary Sue. If you don't wanna really read them, but want to read them in an amused way, I'd recommend cleolinda's Twilight Recaps. I plowed through the books just so I could read her takes on them, and they were MUCH more interesting and very accurate, lol!
