One thing I forgot to emphasize about the reunification day thing - Germany was abuzz. People were everywhere, happy, singing, drinking. Trains were full of drunk middle aged germans. Train stations beer bars were spilling out everywhere with folks drinking waiting for trains to various places they were going to party. I tried to join the revelry by getting a beer at one of our stops, but with our huge packs and such huge crowds it was a challenge to navigate (so only ONE beer!).
It all made for a pretty hectic, full, and exhausting day, which is why this entry is pretty darn short.
It amazes me how far Germany has come--when the unification initially happened, the months that followed were filled with bombs going off and anti-East, anti-foreigner sentiments. And now the days are filled with beer.
