Hinata couldn't help but instinctually look to the ground in front of her bed. So many eyes watching her, disbelieving, judging, criticizing. The uninterested and uncaring eyes of strangers were far easier to deal with, but she would never get what she wanted by just falling back to the easy path. She’d never help anyone-never have the power she needed to protect those precious to her. Failure was all too common in her past, and Hinata couldn’t afford it anymore

White eyes stared into the younger girl without any sort of friendliness. Neji did not believe her, and he was not going to pretend to. He knew he was being hard on the girl; if she was telling the truth, it must be rather hard for her to have to go through all of this. However, he did not care about that at the moment. The only thing he cared about was the fact that everything he had heard and believed in was being torn to shreds by the appearance of this girl

Kurenai nodded her agreement, thinking that Neji had a very valid point. If the person had enough skill, using illusion to change physical appearance wasn't difficult. She had used it several times in the past, usually on missions for the rebellion. (It was also useful for pulling jokes on people, but that was something else entirely...)

"Making decisions like this, only based on readily-available information, is something we avoid whenever we can. I'm sure you can understand why," she said, "when admitting a spy would have disastrous consequences for the rebellion. Perhaps, if you could prove to us beyond doubt that you are who you claim to be, we would be more willing to consider you."
Kurenai wondered what drove this girl to want to join with the rebels, and whether she knew the kind of dangerous and unpredictable life they led in the woods.
