I wouldn't be surprised - he is the one who said of Jeri Ryan last year, that it was the top Borg vs. the President of the Universe. That's a total sic fi reference. But I don't think that influences casting one wit, it's just fun after the fact.

I'm working on the assumption that he's not a jerk, he's just been set off by loosing his company, and finding out his mother has opened herself to something unknown and potentially dangerous. I'm also working with the assumption that if Jack has been bending Rick's ear at all, it's not been good.

I honestly can't see Sharon raising a child who is an a$$hole. The few times she's spoken of him, it's been with pride, no hint of disappointment. If he was a proper jerk, she'd be disappointed.
