It's hard to pick an absolute favourite, because there were quite a few that I really liked a lot, as well as a few that didn't really work for me much. Boys Will Be Boys, The Deep End and Return to Sender part One are all up there as favourites.
I think the one that I come back to the most so far, though, is Poster Boy. I loved the structure, with us following the serial killer all the way through as well as following the squad. I thought the killer himself was easily the best one they've had so far. I liked that it felt like a true ensemble episode, with all of the squad having little moments to shine. I loved seeing Sharon and the killer talking at the end, and seeing how much it genuinely affected her. I loved Flynn realising how much it had affected her and making an effort to support her in it. And then the "I love you" to Rusty at the end. And then the cliffhanger with the letter to Sharon - even though it went nowhere, it worked brilliantly at the time as a finishing moment.
I loved the structure of Poster Boy as well. I think that it really heightened the drama of the episode and I really hope that the writers structure a few episodes (at least) of season three in a similar way. I especially liked how we got a really meaty background for the killer himself; that's also something that I'd like to see the writers do more of in season three.

I agree. It makes a big difference to how involving the crime itself is, and having a good CotW is important, really, I think, in making a good episode. The episodes that fall flattest for me tend to be ones where I really couldn't care less about the CotW and am just skimming through for occasional fun scenes with the squad or whatever.

Agreed. For example, the CotW for episode 9 There's No Place Like Home was kind of eh, but the guest cast was interesting and entertaining enough for me to really enjoy the episode. Otherwise, I would have found it all very boring.
Season 1 is easy: episode 4. That's still my favourite out of all of them.
Season 2 had a couple of strong episodes, but nothing that really stood out for me. It was more the overall story-arc that was interesting.
I guess I would say Poster Boy because of the interesting way it was filmed, and also the way Sharon tries to connect with the killer, and how distraught she is that she failed him. And the end with Rusty and the letters always chokes me up.

That was definitely a fun one. I really enjoyed that the writers wrote such a light hearted episode before Citizen's Arrest the following week, which was really dark. I like it when we get comedic relief before or after really heavy episodes.
I also loved that it started and ended with Sharon and Rusty doing normal people things like getting ready for your day and making sandwiches. And Sharon being at the crime scene, don't get to see much of that either.
Yes on both counts. I like it when the episode is kind of framed by Sharon and Rusty's home life, it's a reminder that at the end of the day, these characters are so much more than just their job titles. I also loved seeing Sharon at the crime scene, though I have come to personally prefer it when Provenza is the one in charge at the crime scenes. To me, that speaks of Sharon and Provenza coming to an arrangement of sorts where each one takes the lead on various parts of the investigation. But it's still nice to have Sharon check in at the crimes scenes now and again as well.
Probably There's no place like home! The old people were hilarious! I also had a soft spot for Jack too on the show I haven't quite grasped Shandy yet, so for a bit I was a Jack/Sharon supporter. Puts on flame suit... I just haven't seen the Shandy chemistry!
I don't have an issue with Shandy if it happens that's fine but I am so used to the awesome chemistry with her and EJO on BSG that its hard to see it when it isn't in my face. But I do like Shandy fanfic!! I will admit that!
I love the whole courtroom scene where they all tell the judge individually how they were trying to kill the guy!! Lol loved it especially when the judge is like well you are old...probation!! Was nice to see Doris Roberts again loved her on Everybody Loves Raymond! And the end where Provenza takes her glasses and shoots perfectly!
