I did some small sketches of Mai's hair. Yeah, her hair. Because it'd be pretty hard to wear her Fire Lady crown with her current style, right? So I came up with a new one.

If you want some concrit on making it look Mai-like, I don't think it's so much the eyes. Her face seems a bit longer and thinner than you have it, which is a break from most characters in the series, and even most anime girls in general (probably why some people say she "looks like a man.") Her nose and mouth are also a bit closer to her chin than you'd expect them to be, although this can vary some with who's doing the art that day. (I personally love this about her character design, because you see so much more variation in real faces than most people draw in cartoons, and also because being a little different doesn't make her any less pretty.)

I do think you did a good job of capturing the feel of her. And you're right, it would be hard to wear the crown with her current hairstyle! Whatever was she thinking! Although, she could wear twin crowns and they could double as knives like in EIP.

Thank you for the suggestions :) I did this about three weeks ago, but haven't gone back to her character design since because I was so frustrated at NOT knowing what to do. I'll keep what you said in mind; I always notice her longer face, but I never execute it as such.
