In this shot, they animated Mai's outfit wrong. She's standing next to Haru.

Obviously Mai is the mastermind behind Zuko; I was just referring to her possibly weaker moments, whenever they may be.

Then again I agree with this so much more than what I had previously considered. So props.

Agreed! Mai would be totally awesome and help her man out since he's so awkward... but you have to admit she'd be totally bored by it (when she's not being amused by Zuko's screw-ups, of course) I think she'd be better at handling the uppercrust like you said and Zuko would be slightly more skilled at dealing with the commoners so they'll balance each other out well.

I think Zuko is up to the task of running and redeeming his nation. His zeal and honor will help him prevail. And his main partner in doing that will his BFF Avatar Aang.

Mai is his companion who he can relax with and have happy tiemz with, and I think that's a role she'd be happy in. Her contacts have been useful for her, but none of them compare to the new Fire Lord. He doesn't need her to smooth things out for him because he's the fricken' Fire Lord now. And I don't think Mai will feel constrained in any way since her bf is not ambitious and overly concerned with his image, and he has actively encouraged her to be more expressive.
