I have also just realized upon this (partial) rewatch that Azula knew it wasn't the guard because she knew that Zuko was working with the Gaang and as such RECOGNIZED HIM AS NOT ONE OF THEM. Which is why she said "He's not one of them."

I feel slow for not noticing this previously!

You know what is greater than this episode being on TV officially and the official Maiko glory?

We get to see what happens after this episode. Unless Nik dies and doesn't broadcast them. YaymoreMaiko.

I feel the next episode might have some glory for Zutara though. :/ Ohmy. That's all I really have to say on the matter.

That's what they want you to think. Of course, they are going to "spend some unexpected time together." Oh, wait...

And the thing about this trailer is that it's not even...intentionally ship-baity like that was?

I actually long expected it to be, but in reality it wasn't at all. People take anything with Zuko and Katara in the same frame as shippy, but like that was no shippier than the trailer for TBR was shippy for Sokka/Zuko and as it talked about THEIR mission in those episodes.

Mai's betrayal ties in all those little moments over the past two seasons where you wondered, "What is going on with her? This doesn't feel right." When she agreed to forfeit the deal for her baby brother, when she unquestionably obeyed Azula's command to leave in "The Headband," they were all little things that were worth it to convince Azula of her loyalty. When it came down to the wire and she dropped the facade, Azula was truly fooled.

It's flooring. Mai fooled AZULA! Azula, the devious mastermind, the manipulative genius, who knows everything about everybody and can predict and control their every move! She never suspected that what Mai felt for her brother could be stronger than the fear she provokes in people.

Did you hear Azula's hopeless confusion when she said, "The thing I don't udnerstand is why?" You can see the wheels turning in her head as she's trying to piece the puzzle together still trying to find a reason for what in the world could prompt Mai to do somehting so apparently foolish. What did she miss

This was very Maiko glory. Zutara gets a bit of ninja shine in 3.16, but OH WELL. The ninja kick-ass part of it will flush out all Zutara hints in my opinion. RAR, I'm watching it for the kick-ass waterbending.

Hahahaha, Rawles, you got it all wrong. I really couldn't care less about the Zutara in 3.16. IT SHALL BE EPIC REGARDLESS, and I just want the AANGST and backstory of it all. Katara does need some Zuko bonding anyways, so yeah.
