And the monsters will hunt... )
He burned with little beyond an obsessive, driven need as his eyes locked onto Akito, overwhelming even his initial fear of emerging into the hallway. Now that he had his goal, there was no stopping him, and Akito's back hitting the wall was the perfect chance. A broken, guttural moan dragged itself from the boy's throat, and he lunged, throwing himself and his full weight at Akito to knock him fully to the ground. If he wasn't stopped, he would ( ... )

Of course, once the others were away and past her, she had much more freedom to act. The question was, what to do with that freedom?
A kido barrier wouldn't last long against the force of that thing's will. She had a distinct feeling that the only reason the Geki bakudo had worked at all was because she had been holding it in place, in effect constantly refreshing it. The ease with which it was shedding the Six Light Rod Prison was alarming, to say the least.
Hado would probably be just as ineffective, but it was worth a shot. No need to bother with an incantation this time; if it worked, it worked, and if not, the incantation wasn't going to help. She had learned that much, at least. She braced her wrist and took aim at the apparition. "Hado 31: Shakkahō!"(OOC note: Shakkahō is ( ... )

It was easy to see the way his eyes widened and face twisted just before impact, an all-too-clear understanding lighting them; he shrieked as the flames engulfed him, a piercing cry of pain and terror--and the sound wasn't so different from the way Akito had screamed at all.
He was a tangled heap of limbs as the fire faded, moaning but without any obvious injuries as he picked himself back up--or at least, picked himself up as far as a boy reduced to crawling on his stomach could--, and lifted his head to regard them. There was wariness in his gaze, fear--but the driving, instinctive need soon overshadowed it. Within seconds, he was lunging for Rukia again.

"Ryuho, drop Agito, grab Rukia instead! Pull her back as fast as you can!" He shouted, moving in to support Agito on his own, feeling lucky only that he was strong enough to support a fair bit of weight. "Rukia, get distance," This is exactly what he'd been worried about. He should have told her to get back, not to just keep back. He had to hope Ryuho was fast enough to help get her away. Because she was the only one even able to do anything against this monster-- if she was grabbed then there was little any of them could do to help her.

'Agito...'
Their mental space had calmed, but it was very dark. Akito didn't like what it had become. Agito had no energy to reply to him though, too busy using what strength he had left to hold it together. Fuck it hurt to move, but like hell was he not going to try keeping himself upright on his own.

He was caught like an insect in amber, his struggle obvious--shattered legs dangling uselessly, arms thrown up in a familiar gesture to shield his twisted, torn up face, neck lolling at an unnatural angle. For a long, helpless moment, he stared out at them in silence and stillness, trapped.
The next moment, he was gone.
Little more than a few smears of blood lingered in the twisted hollow space he had left behind. For anyone with the attention to notice or inclination to check, they might notice a faint rustle of cloth coming from the still-open door of the Filthy Bedroom, and the pale gleam of eyes watching them from under the bed.

He also did his best to banish the memories of that face in the ice.
But he didn't ignore the eyes watching them from under the bed. They couldn't stay long.
"Ryuho, Rukia, you're both okay?" he asked quickly, before he turned his attention completely to Agito. "Hold on," he said firmly, and carefully looked over the injuries. He pulled some fabric from what he carried with him, dabbing it with disinfectant. He'd have to stem the bleeding as much as possible, first. "Let's get him out of here, to somewhere more secure."

"I'm not injured" He replied when asked, and since the ghost seemed to be gone, he allowed Zetsuei to vanish into a mist of fine dust, saving his strength in case he needed it later.

"I'll live," he muttered under his breath. While it hurt like hell, Agito wasn't going to allow himself to die again. He refused to. Golden eye finally looked up, tired but alight with a fire of anger and determination. He wasn't going anywhere. Not this night.

Okay. Both his teammates were okay; Rukia and Ryuho both. Akito/Agito wasn't, but they could tend to that.
He nodded to Rukia. "Okay, good. Let's get out of here fast, then, while we have the chance." He spared a brief glance back toward the eyes, and began to carefully move the injured teen away.

"Where can we find medical supplies?" He knew field first aid, but hopefully someone else was better.

He listened to the others, the distraction from the pain good for both him and his other. Akito needed to focus on something right now.

The group made it to the nearest safe room with little incident, to the relief of everyone involved. Rukia's gigai was running on the spiritual equivalent of fumes; if she had to fight anything else, she was going to have to do it without the physical body.
