Unlike his brother, Sasuke was not so good at faking sleep. Once Shisui had slipped out of the room, Sasuke had quickly made to follow him, scurrying outside with Roary wound up tightly in the cage of his small arms. He wasn't sure exactly why Shisui-kun was here... or, exactly, how he'd gotten so beat up, but he'd understood that the other Uchiha had been very sick, and he had enough sense not to pester everyone with questions ( ... )

"Rice and miso, right now. I thought I might make Tamagoyaki and a little fish. What do you think? Any requests? I wanted to make breakfast for everyone, it was a long night and everyone is tired." He smiled down at Itachi's little brother, managing to make sure he turned his head to watch him without looking awkward.

"Did you sleep, Sausuke-kun?" He wouldn't be suprised if Sausuke was the only one that had, they had worked hard to keep him from realizing the depth of danger they were in. But Sausuke was a perceptive kid, not that he'd expect any different from a child Itachi had played any part in raising.

Maybe Itachi would sleep, now that they had both left, or more likely he'd probably show up, nervous and not entirely sure of himself or of them. He hoped Itachi slept, he could look after Sausuke just fine for a little while. "Was your nii-san still asleep when you left?"

There was a soft, pleased sound. It sounded good--and the boy was only just starting to realize how hungry he was. "Good. We gotta make sure Nii-san eats. Can we have tomatoes?" He nodded for a moment, trying not to look too hopeful. Shisui had asked, after all. His brother hadn't been acting quite right, and so that must have meant that he wasn't feeling so well. They could fix that.

"Uh-huh! A little, anyway. This place feels weird...." He rubbed the back of his head, debating clamoring up onto one of the counters so he could better watch, but decided against it. He didn't want to get in Shisui's way.

The question made him mull for a moment, thinking. "I think so. He didn't say anything when I left." That didn't mean much, but Itachi didn't seem to want him wandering around here on his own. Suddenly, the boy looked somewhat crestfallen. "Maybe I shouldda left Roary with him..."

"Yeah we do. He's bad about forgetting to eat, isn't he?" His smiled warmed silently, real fondness lighting his eye. It was nice to know that someone else would fuss over Itachi with him. "I think we can manage. Itachi like vegetables with breakfast. What else do you think? Cabbage is Itachi's favorite."

He nodded, watching Sasuke out of the corner of his eye. "Yeah, it's pretty weird, isn't it? The days are longer than they should be. But after last night, I think everyone was really tired." He paused, watching the way Sasuke eyed the counter. "I think I saw a stool in the corner, if you want to help me. I bet it'd really impress your nii-san to know you made breakfast."

Which didn't really mean anything with Itachi, but he smiled a little at the implied trust in letting Sausuke join him in the kitchen without hovering. "I think he'd be glad that Roary was with you, Sasuke-kun. But if you want, you can tuck them in together later. I'm sure Itachi could use a nap after he eats."
