As far as Mello was concerned, the fact that-- after over what had to have been over a month-- he hadn't found anything even remotely sensible was beyond ridiculous.

The contents of the locked drawer and trunks, really rather unsurprisingly, still seemed to be the most promising clues-- though they still made little enough sense to even have been considered as such-- he had come across so far. It was no less than unacceptable that he didn't know what any of them meant.

He seized the first moment he had alone in the study to unlock the desk drawer and go through it once more. The journal, as he had entirely expected, was still impossible to pry open and had once again proven to be no less than useless and frustrating. Until he found some sort of key that looked like it might fit the lock, he figured it would be a decent plan to leave it in the drawer. The mirror hardly seemed like it had the potential to be of any use; however, it was small, so he pocketed it anyway-- along with one of the small bottles-- and headed back upstairs ( ... )

The flash of movement, just at the edge of Leo's vision, caught his attention and the beastman turned his head to look at the stranger. His ears stood slightly back as he regarded the young man, but he didn't seem to be a threat at the moment, so he merely watched him, his gaze stoic and patient. Since it was dawn, he didn't think he had to worry about monsters and the like, but as he didn't know who in the house could and could not be trusted as of yet, he kept up his guard.

Leo gave the young man a polite nod, watching to see what he would do.

Mello froze for a good few seconds, his eyes wide in startled astonishment as he stared at his surroundings. He recognized the room, at least; he had just been here. But he hadn't the slightest clue as to how he'd gotten here.

It had to have been some effect of having drank from the bottle, though he couldn't quite say what had happened. Had he been teleported here?

When he noticed the man-- creature-- who was also in the room, he simply stared for another couple of moments, raising an eyebrow as he met the guy's gaze. Though Mello had seen him around here, they had never so much as spoken. He wondered whether he had seen... whatever it was that had just happened.

He quickly shoved the bottle back into his pocket before taking a few strides forward to approach the beastman.

"Hello."

The stares were getting old. Honestly, hadn't anyone here even so much as heard of a beastman? Just where were they from, to never have noticed one before? Beastmen were plentiful on Lunar, but he could have sworn he'd heard people mention cities and other such things he'd never even heard of, before - and Leo had traveled all over the Silver Star on the Dragonship Destiny.

Despite his annoyance, Leo gave the other man a courteous nod, though his ears lay back a bit in annoyance at the look the other had on his face until a moment ago. "Greetings."

While it was true that Mello had never heard of a beastman, his dumbfounded staring had much more to do with the fact that he'd just fucking teleported into the room this guy was in than the fact that the guy had horns and dog ears. Even if he thought it was no less than odd, he'd certainly encountered stranger things. And it wasn't as though he had never seen the guy before, either.

"I don't believe we've met," he commented, narrowing one eye as he looked the guy over; although Mello didn't find his appearance to be terribly shocking, it was different, and he wasn't about to make a secret out of his scrutiny. "I'm Mello."
