The voice sounded young. Nina had been playing under the piano with the tiny wooden animals and the stuffed monkey. Even if the words he was saying didn't make any sense to her, his voice sounded young and kinda scared. Maybe he was her age? That might be fun, she hadn't had a lot of playmates cause daddy was busy. She looked under the couch, spotting bare feet only a little bigger than her own. Either he was a really tiny person or a kid like her.

How did she make friends with someone her own age? Daddy said she should be herself and be nice and he was probably scared if he'd just gotten here.

She crawled out from under the piano, peeking around the couch and smiling. "Hi! Are you lost too?"

"It must be sad, not to have any friends." She tugged at Patchy's ear, looking down at the doll. "Adults all seem really lonely, don't you think? They're silly. It's easier to do things when you have friends. What's your clan like? Is it big? I've never met anyone with a clan before."

She nodded. "It is really weird. All the adults are confused. There's the one big clock but it runs really slow. Maybe if somebody had a clock with them, they could tell how the time was running." She glanced at the windows. "The windows are cleaner now. So the light gets in. I like it better. Though I like the study and my spot under the piano the best."

Nina beamed, looking excited to talk about Alexander. "He's really cool! What's a nii-san? Oh, and a ninja! What do they do? Are you a ninja? I bet they would, Alexander is really friendly and he gets along with EVERYONE!"
