The 'Options 2011' Fair was on Tuesday and it wasn't very inspiring. In fact, it left me overwhelmed and terrified ( Read more... )

Hey I realized the other day that my cousin's husband recently finished his MDiv at U of T, if Jason was interested in talking to someone about it (I don't know where he is on it) Id be happy to put him in touch! :)

That would be awesome! Do you know what denomination he is? I think U of T has the biggest school of theology in Canada, but I could be mistaken. Going there would be another ginormous life change, that's for sure!

Argh. Most useless "job" fair of life. That was the day (two years ago) that I seriously started thinking about moving to Calgary.

are you still teaching out there? I've never been to Western Canada, and would have no idea what to expect.

I'm not anymore, I'm back in Ottawa and working for Catholic Christian Outreach for the year, and currently in the middle of deciding what's next. Calgary was good...a big, self-made-man sort of city, quiet, but with a faster pace than Ottawa. My roommate was an ACE grad and still teaches at an arts immersion school, of which there were a few in Calgary. There's more of a culture of private/independant/charter schools out there (I taught at a private school, my roommate taught at a charter school, and there were many others), though I'm not sure if that's just my perception having been at a private school. It certainly seemed like independant schools were a bigger deal there than in Ottawa/Kingston. Anyway, that's all sort of vague; if you have specific questions about out west, let me know :) .

Sounds so overwhelming!

But I'm with you on the idea of a "right time" for any major decision (moving far away, starting a family, things like that.)

The flip side of how there won't ever be a "right" time, is that all times can be the right time. Certain factors make some times easier candidates for the "right time" than others, but ultimately it's not about making the right choice, it's about making a choice and then making it right. At least that's how I try see it, which is an effort to save myself a lot of anxiety!
