The local or regional weather forecasts are advising "Frost."
I've been reminding himself, gently, that he has two azalea plants and two roses and six young arbor vitae to get into the ground. It's my belief he's just dawdling so I'll make sure it gets done without him having to do any digging.

I'm a bit confused. None of those shrubs or plants is unwanted.
What did I write that gave you that impression? Was it the phrase "allowed to die?" That's never a conscious decision made by himself; it's more a kind of magical thinking, as if by thinking in terms of good weather holding until after those plants are in the ground and fairly well established, it'll happen that way, just like my dad seemed to have believed that his fondness for that Peace Rose would more than offset the rose having been planted in a shady location. (That rose did surprisingly well, but it could have and would have done better.)
Himself likes finding them, selecting them, buying them, and even watering them in their nursery pots. He particularly likes finding things on clearance and has a true nose for a sale and a real bargain.
He just doesn't enjoy digging holes for them; and he doesn't intend for them to die, either: it's my belief that despite being told what plants can survive or what they need, he just thinks that they will survive, no matter ( ... )
