I, too, have never understood why they drifted apart--what the hell was Conan Doyle thinking? Of course in my 'slashiverse' Watson wrote the stories that way to throw off anyone who might think there was any hanky-panky between them (see my story "August 2, 1914" for my own version).
I hope you write more. This needs a sequel!!

As to a sequel, I hadn't planned one originally (it was really meant to be a conclusion), but I'll think about it. It will have to wait, though, I've already started another story and should really try to finish it first (no idea if I manage.. it's supposed to be a mystery, and God, that's difficult to write..).
