Finished reading the last KH2 novel. Within 4 hours, wow, I can speed-read Japanese after all! Or, as I said before, it's probably because the KH novels seem to have this children book feeling to it so the language is pretty much at an intermediate level.
So, anyway, major spoilers ahead! Probably has spoilers for KH2FM+ too, so be aware.
This novel is a 700 yen 214-paged Akuroku and Rikusora fanfic. no rly. Oh wait, I've said this for the previous books too, didn't I? Either way, not only Roxas and Axel finally got the reunion that all the fan(girl)s have been waiting for (it's the exact scene that the new scans were showing; Axel and Roxas did meet up through consciousness after Axel died and after Roxas lost to Sora in the battle in the Awakening), but Sora freaking hugged Riku twice in the book. Not counting the hand-clinging in their reunion (which seemed slightly more dramatic in the book too because Sora even put his head to Riku's hand).
Namine pretty much turned into a stalker in the book. After saving Kairi, all she did was secretly follow Sora and the gang from behind and just watch and pray for them. Yes, she just watched them kick the butts of Xigbar, Luxord and Saix way back in the dark corner and did emo monologues. Whut. Okay, as much as I do like Namine and I understand her character, I don't like how the novels keep giving Namine emo moments at the most random timing. T_T;
Riku didn't know where he got the keyblade for Kairi, too, WTF. *facepalm*
ROFLOL And there's a bonding moment between Riku and Donald and Goofy! Okay, sort of. In the second final battle with Xemnas (or specifically, the buildings), Goofy slipped and Riku quickly gripped his hand. Then Donald slipped and Riku had to hug him to keep him up. Then he commented, "Good grief, the warrior's companions sure are a handful."
Anyway, just thought I would translate my favourite scenes in the book. I don't have time to do more translations, sorry. :/
-------------------------------------------------------
Axel flumped into a chair. He was breathing heavily.
"Axel, are you hurt?"
Namine ran up to him in a hurry and dropped a bar of ice-cream to the floor. (Oh I can SO imagine the look of DiZ here)
"It's nothing, don't worry. Anyway..."
Axel pointed to the portal behind him with his chin.
"Go through that and you'll reach Kairi. Hurry."
"Got it. Let's go, Namine." Riku started walking toward it and Namine turned to him.
"But Axel..." She looked worriedly at Axel.
"Leave the ice-cream behind, Namine."
Axel stole the last bar of ice-cream from Namine, then smiled at her as she was still staring at him.
"I said go. You wanted to meet Kairi, didn't ya?"
Namine slightly nodded to that. Tears started to flow down her cheeks.
"What about you?"
"I have to bring Sora and the others there."
Namine held Axel's hand that was holding the ice-cream stick. His hand was cold.
"Thank you, Axel... See you again," said Namine while smiling. Axel slowly nodded to her.
"See you, Namine."
(But they never meet again after that...)
-------------------------------------------------------
Roxas stood up.
"See you, Axel."
Axel looked up at those words.
It was a promise. Just like how they made a promise about meeting each other again in their next life, they were making another promise.
"See you, partner."
Smiling back at Axel, Roxas' body disappeared. Not long after, Axel also disappeared.
-------------------------------------------------------
And Roxas and Namine are quite optimistic that Axel didn't really die/disappear but just "went back to where he belongs." I wonder if this is some kind of hint for KH3. >_>
Anyway, overall it's a good book. Feels kinda weird how every battle only takes up around 2-3 pages (with the exception of the final battle) but not like I care for those, anyway. Just like the previous books, it gave us a lot of surprises here and there, even for those who have played the game (and beat it 3 times, in my case OTL) so I can still feel amused or moved by certain scenes. The Axel and Roxas reunion was definitely touching but it could have given me a bigger impact if only someone didn't spoil me about it. =_=; But my goodness, the amount of times you see the words "Riku!" and "Sora!" in the book...!!
Oh hey, looks like KH2FM+ promo video is already playing in stores. Hope some very nice staff will leak the video online...
