Hi, Yuletide Author! Thank you for signing up and thank you in advance for what you're going to write. I've been doing Yuletide long enough that it feels like a genuine tradition, and I am excited!

This might seem like a random question, but I've always wondered this. I thought the general idea with Yuletide is that you say what fandom you want a story in, and then some entity pairs you up with a secret author who writes said story for you and then reveals their identity around Christmastime and gives you the story. Is that about it? But if it's just an LJ-wide fandom thing, how can your secret author see this entry if it's friends locked?

You have the exact gist of Yuletide (and I'll add, it's for small fandoms - stuff with relatively few fanworks posted for it somewhere). Also, Yuletide is much further than LJ-wide - it's really internet-wide now. And I friends-lock all posts automatically here at LJ. I post directly on Dreamwidth, where the entry is public, and all my entries there crosspost here. I use the DW link in my Yuletide sign-up, so whoever is assigned to me will only know about that link/page. I try to make sure I come back here and make the entry public, just in case, I just hadn't done that today before you commented :-)

Got it! I feel like I've seen others do Yuletide (or similar) posts that were friends locked, too, but maybe it was an auto-copy-from-DW thing in those cases too.
