Oxford Comma - Vampire WeekendWho gives a fuck about an oxford comma?
I've seen those english dramas too
They're cruel
It's only been two classes, and Dakin, riding on a temporary high of commendable A-level results and Fiona's fawning, is frankly not impressed with the young maverick and his unorthodox methods. In fact, he is quite at the brink, ready to snap if another of his essays is officially deemed the dullest of the lot.
2.
We Didn’t Start the Fire - Billy JoelJosef Stalin, Malenkov, Nasser and Prokofiev
Rockefeller, Campanella, Communist Bloc
Meanwhile, history keeps time ticking. The boys are being worked to the bone, and are told constantly to question, to be different, to stop being so goddammed mundane, for chrissakes, the other candidates would be worldly and interesting and all they could formulate was this?

My Junk - Spring Awakening OBCIt's like I’m your lover or more like your ghost.
I spend the day wondering what you do, where you go.
I try and just kick it but then what can I do?
We've all got our junk, and my junk is you.
By then, Dakin is sufficiently intrigued. Nietzsche, mispronunciations, and endless dull essays aside, he can’t quite comprehend why he wants so badly to impress the seemingly-unflappable Irwin. Of all things, he’s even starting to write like the man.
4.
Instant Pleasure - Rufus WainwrightI don't want somebody to love me
Just give me sex whenever I want it
'Cause all I ask for is instant pleasure
Instant pleasure, instant pleasure
Frankly, Dakin sees Irwin as somewhat of a mystery. He’s almost too inventive, almost too different. Irwin may have taught him to push the limits when it comes to the books, but Dakin’s got some ideas of his own.

Single Drop of You - Adam PascalToday I live for
A single drop of you
Between discussions of post-colonial history and heated debates on Sartre, Irwin takes off his glasses. A drink, a cigarette, a silent understanding passes between the two. Dakin swoops in, hoping to regain his bearings, put things right-side-up, and emerge on his terms.
6.
Substitute - The WhoI look pretty tall but my heels are high
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young, but I'm just back-dated, yeah
As expected, Dakin sails into Oxford. Hoping for inspiration from his teacher and erstwhile lover, he does some searching, and the truth begins to fall into his lap, piece by piece.
7.
Lies - Glen Hansard & Marketa IrglovaPart of me has died and won't return
And part of me wants to hide
The part that's burned
But how can he explain why the lies infuriate him so? He shouldn’t even care whether Irwin went to Corpus. In fact, he doesn’t even care where Irwin went, or is going. Future's bright, everything shiny and gleaming in Oxford, one-way ticket to self-satisfaction. And so he heads off with nary a backward glance.
8.
Campus - Vampire WeekendThen I see you, you're walking 'cross the campus
Cruel professor studying romances
How am I supposed to pretend
I never want to see you again
University is everything he’s imagined it to be, and more. Shiny and gleaming, he keeps reminding himself, as he buries himself in work, mindless flings, and more work. However, every slim, bespectacled figure reminds him of the unassuming enigma he had left behind, and he cannot quite bring himself to forget.
9.
Role of a Lifetime - Matt DoyleThe role of a lifetime is living a fantasy.
The trauma that you struggle to erase.
Thoughts battle words over deeds
A war with such casualties.
All played out behind a smiling face.
Meanwhile, Irwin feels the weight of his inequities closing in on him. The carefully-crafted stories he’s told all his life have fallen apart; instead, a deeply unfamiliar emptiness has taken up residence. A startling hollowness that no poetry, no literature, can provide the antidote for.
10.
Moving On - Rascal Flatts I've dealt with my ghosts and I've faced all my demons
Finally content with a past I regret
I've found you find strength in your moments of weakness
For once I'm at peace with myself
Upon further introspection, Irwin realizes that it is about time he put that part of his life behind him. Quit his teaching job - surely, Felix would understand - or perhaps not - whatever the case, he is ready to seal that half-flapping open door shut. Perhaps he’d go into journalism, or television. He would be a good journalist, he thinks; after all, flib and glib - just like Hector’d always accused him of being.

All the Old Showstoppers - The New PornographersWith her (his?) hand to guide you
You are nothing if not home
Packing the last of his items, he turns at the sound of an impatiently-tapping foot. “I heard you’d be leaving. Why? You were never a good liar, but you were a good teacher.” And that is all it takes. A slight smirk on that face he knows so well. Now, a quirky grin spreading across his face as he cannot stop this enveloping sense that everything might just be fine again. Where words are rendered insufficient, a tingling sense of warmth darts down his spine as paper-cool hands brush and linger.
