Cowerdice & Yuugi Mutou

Let's talk about Yuugi Mutou and cowardice for a second. Because I see a lot of fic where Yuugi is a scared, cowering boy with no spine who cries at the drop of a dime. And... well, while I don't argue the fact that Yuugi certainly isn't a paragon of manhood when it comes to fist fights, damn. He is the bravest little boy in anime I know because,

And yeah, while I'm of the mindset "live and let read", the minute anyone mentions the word "angel" and "glistening, crystaline tears" in relation to Yuugi, I hit the back button. ...I suppose an interesting solution would be to find+replace all instances Yami with Yuugi, and Yuugi with Yami in those fics and see how hilariously it reads with the role reversal... haha oh boy

Agreed, anytime I come across fics that have Yugi being a sobbing mess, abused/emotional broken etc, I push the back button. In my opinion, Yugi is cute and kind, but he is not a coward or an emo who keep angst with himself and wait for rescue *shake head*. Even in season 0, before Yugi completed the puzzle, Yugi was game obsessed and all but he was content with his life.And I liked it best when Yugi fight along with Yami like a true companion, not just a borrowed body. In fanfiction, normally I would prefer a canon!Yugi who is kind,cute but brave when needed. But reading fics about a spine!Yugi is just as amusing, I like reading fics when Yugi and Yami are rivals who constantly competing at something, they are equal so I liked them in equal situation.

Oh man, those times when Yuugi and Yami tag-team to kick ass together... There need to be MORE of those. I always liked that moment in the manga where Yuugi is about to embark to Duelist Kingdom, and his grandpa tells Yuugi not to underestimate his own value. Because Yami is too proud and cocky when dueling, according to Sugoroku, and Yuugi needs to keep a cool head and be their moral compass. MAN that moment was great. It's little moments like that that really make me love Yugioh as a series, because Yuugi is such an atypical shounen protagonist.

Aaah Did you ever read the Dungen Dice Monsters chapters from the manga? Where Otogi's dad breaks the puzzle, and Yuugi has to pretty much beat Otogi on his own? It's awesome. The anime totally gypped Yuugi in that arc.

...There are FICS where Yuugi and Yami are RIVALS?!! WHERE?!?!?!?!?!?! I have honestly never seen one ever and... and my heart just skipped a beat. If you have any helpful links you could point me to, I would be grateful forever. <333

A fellow manga-nerd?!?! I am so happy! Pretty much when I talk Yugioh I always mean the manga. haha It's easier to follow the story, since it's all one continous plotline. (Unlike the two animes and various movies/fillers... so much non-connected cannon

YUP! It is my personal mission in fandom to overcompensate this fact. haha XD

Granted, I think the manga gives Yuugi more credit than the anime did, and most people saw the anime. But still... It's not like the role of Yuugi Mutou was played by a doormat in the whole 200-episode series. ^^;

I AM working on something particular at the moment. A puzzleshipping kink-meme fill that spawned into a fic. XD;; So far I've been wrestling with the writing for a few weeks now. Hopefully it'll be done soon, my eyes are goo from staring at it for so long
