Thanks to black_samvara I've now seen all four Alien movies (or at least enough of the third to count), and I'm kinda in love with Resurrection. ( Random bits under here )
There are so many good bits in Resurrection, mainly centered (as you point out) around the clone Ripley. Overall the tone really frustrates me though - it's like the humour of Whedon and the humour of Jeunet are locked in competition and ultimately overload each other.
After I saw the third, I though they'd finished off the trilogy beautifully, so when I heard there was another on the way I was initially somewhat dubious.
I can't quite remember why I went to see it at the cinema now, but I'm glad I did. It's now my personal favourite. The continuation of the overall story works really well (and was much less contrived than I expected), and I loved the dynamic between Ripley and Call. The little 'discussion' between the three aliens in the holding cell was a nice little scene, too.
Thanks for sharing the basketball story - that's beautiful :)
