A/N: While I'm currently brain-blocked on my other Mpreg story, I figured I'd post this one to tide y'all over.
The title is a line from a song by Steve Carlson.
Bobby Singer was in the middle of researching a hunt for a friend one afternoon when there was a knock on his door. He got up to answer it; not knowing that what lie on the other side of the door would change his life forever.

Dean Winchester’s life as he knew it was over. His baby brother, his best friend, his lover had gone off to seek adventure at college…without him. Dean’s heart broke when John issued his ultimatum to Sam. When Sam said “Fine” and packed his bags, he took all the shattered pieces of Dean’s heart with him. Which is why Dean, twenty-two year old hunter of demons, monsters, ghosts, lover of Sam and son of John was currently standing on the porch of the one person he had left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bobby opened his front door to find a 6 foot, pale, exhausted man staring back at him with wide, bloodshot eyes. “Hey Bobby.”
“Dean? Are you alright?”
“Not really.”
“Is it-?”
“They’re fine.”
“Are you hurt?”
“Not physically.”
“Come inside.”
The old hunter grabbed the younger man’s duffel bag off the porch and led him into the kitchen, where Dean promptly fell into a chair and buried his face in his hands. “What happened son?” Bobby asked in a gentle voice, his heart constricting at how utterly broken the boy before him seemed.
“Promise you won’t judge me.”
“Judge you? Why would I judge you?”
“I’m pregnant.”
“Preg-what? What are you carrying? How did it happen?”
“It’s not some hell spawn if that’s what you think. About four months ago I met this gypsy. Sam was at the library, dad was on a hunt, I was bored and there was this carnival in town. I thought it'd be fun. Figured the gypsy was probably a hack. She mentioned something about greatest fears-said she was the real deal and could stop mine from coming true. She had me drink this potion. Next thing I knew I was back at the motel. Pretty sure that was the night it happened.”
“It’s Sam’s isn’t it?”
“How’d you figure that?” Dean asked curiously. He was too tired to even try to deny it.
“Well first there was the whole 'don’t judge me' request. Plus I’ve known you practically your whole life. I know your greatest fear is losing your brother. Does he know?” If Bobby hadn’t been watching Dean carefully, he wouldn’t have seen the slight shake of his head indicating that the youngest Winchester had no idea what was going on. “Why didn’t you tell him?”
“He left me Bobby,” Dean whispered, his voice broken.
“Tell me what happened.”
“The past few weeks I’ve been sick. Usually it’s just in the morning, and then it clears up around noon. Dad wasn’t around and Sam just figured I had the flu. That’s what I thought too until a few days ago when I realized I was only sick in the morning. So I went to see this psychic Caleb told me about who was in the area. She told me I was pregnant with my brother’s child. I was gonna tell Sam when I got home, but dad was there. They were fighting worse then I’ve ever heard them fight before. Next thing I know, dad tells Sam to get out and never come back. I tried to go after him, but dad locked me in the bathroom so I-”
Before Dean could finish, the phone on the kitchen wall started to ring. “That’s dad-please don’t tell him I’m here. I don’t want him to know. Please?” Dean begged his green eyes wide with fear. Bobby hadn’t seen the boy that frightened since he was fifteen and Sam got clawed by a werewolf. Bobby decided right then and there that he would do anything and everything he could to keep the boy safe, including lie to John Winchester.
“Hello?” the old hunter said as he picked up his phone.
“Bobby, it’s John.”
“What can I do for you Johnny?”
“It’s Dean. He took off. He won’t answer his phone. I don’t know where he can be. I called Jim and Caleb-they haven’t seen him. I even called Sam. He said Dean’s been sick the past couple weeks, but he hasn’t seen him since he left three weeks ago.”
“Don’t worry. I’m sure he’s fine.”
“You heard from him, didn’t you?”
“He’s hurtin' Johnny. You separated him from his brother. Sam’s been Dean’s world since he was born and in one argument you destroyed that.”
“Don’t you think I know that?” John shouted.
“Listen, your boy didn’t say where he was going; just that he was going underground. He’s not gonna hunt and you are not gonna look for him. He needs time, so you leave him alone. He’ll call you when he’s ready.”
“Just-just promise me you’ll let me know how he’s doing from time to time. Let me know he’s okay.”
“I will. Just give him time Johnny.”
“Yeah. Tell him-tell him I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt him.”
“I know. Take care of yourself.”
“Thanks Bobby. Take care of my boy.”
Before Bobby could say anything else, the line went dead. He put it back on the cradle and sat down next to Dean, relaying John’s message. “Listen Dean, you know you have a home here for as long as you need it. And if you decide never to tell your father or brother about the-the baby, then I’ll be here to help you raise it. You’re not alone son. Now, why don’t you go to bed? You look like you could use some rest.”
“Yeah. Thanks Bobby.”
“No thanks needed. That’s what family’s for.”
