Ahem. What I mean to say is that baby preteen Arthur, Gwen, and Morgana are so endearing! I like stuttering Gwen here and although she's horrified that she was caught beating up (yes, Arthur, beating up) the prince, she's not bending over backwards to beg forgiveness, she's just apologizing, like what any normal person would do. :)
Poor Morgana; she has so much to deal with after the death of her father and practically everything she's ever known in addition to her powers manifesting. I'm so very glad that Arthur thinks of an actual good idea! (Whoops, sorry Arthur, I don't think you're that stupid, honest <3). I love that he denies everything and tries to pretend he doesn't have anything to do with anything and even avoids Gwen. Also, heee! at the part where Arthur thinks Gwen's qualifications are what Morgana would think perfect--I don't think he's wrong. :)
...he preferred his servants to be seen and not heard...Why, hello there, future Merlin! *cuddles him while he's off in the woods getting up ( ... )

Thank you for your lovely comment!! It was so odd writing a Merlin fic without Merlin that I couldn't resist adding in a little mention. It's so lucky Arthur is going to get the exact servant he wants, quiet and obedient, efficient in his tasks, suitably awestruck in the Royal Presence and-- Oh, wait. That one got replaced with Merlin, didn't he??
Sorry Arthur.
I really enjoyed writing baby Arthur, Gwen and Morgana - it was so different to anything I'd tried before, bar Dear Idiot - and that was a modern one and just Arthur. I kind of like the idea they were all still running round, having crazy adventures of some sort, even before Merlin arrived. And I love writing secretly-sweet Arthur too :D So yes, I am very grateful to Ven for coming up with the entire storyline for me to write!

Despite all the many exciting things that happened in series 2, that tiny little exchange is probably still in my top 5 moments. Morgana and Arthur! In a scene together! Being snarky! I missed them so much. Plus Morgana and Arthur are my favourite pairing after Merlin and Arthur so I'm glad the series gave me something at least :)
Anyway! Thank you so much for your comment, and for your rec - that was such a lovely surprise to see on my flist yesterday! I'm really happy you enjoyed this so much - I asked Ven for the prompt originally because I had never really written Gwen and wanted to try, so I am immensely pleased you think that she (and the others) were in character. And I have such a soft spot for actually-quite-sweet-and-thoughtful Arthur, especially here when, as you say, he hasn't learned to hide it so well yet behind insults and nuggies :D

I adore, oh my heart, I adore Gwen in this. And the way she meets Arthur and her reactions. Absolutely adorable. Very, very much in-character too.
Morgana missing her dad and having decisions made for her. Sigh.
And Arthur, oh you great big softie.
Arthur had little doubt that attacking the heir to the throne with a broom, insulting him and very nearly starting an argument with him over a pig-boy would be a more than adequate qualification as far as Morgana was concerned*ruffles Arthur's hair* My boy, he eez smart, he do good, he be good king ( ... )

I was saying to someone above, this was supposed to be a Gwen POV piece, to try and get into her head, but I am just too fascinated with Arthur and the way he thinks and puzzles things through, that it switched in the planning stages and became this instead :D I like to think he really is this much of a marshmallow sometimes, just REALLY SECRETLY (or not so secret in a certain Noogie Scene that shall go unnamed...) And I will never get bored of imagining him and Morgana growing up together either!
So yes, THANK YOU, I am so pleased it came across IC and you saying it felt like canon is the best compliment I could get :D
